At road.cc every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a proper insight into how well it works. Our reviewers are experienced cyclists that we trust to be objective. While we strive to ensure that opinions expressed are backed up by facts, reviews are by their nature an informed opinion, not a definitive verdict. We don't intentionally try to break anything (except locks) but we do try to look for weak points in any design. The overall score is not just an average of the other scores: it reflects both a product's function and value – with value determined by how a product compares with items of similar spec, quality, and price.

The Aptonia Raspberry Chocolate cereal bar is 87kcals of cereals, fruit and chocolate that feel welcome before, during or after a ride. Small and tasty, they offer a good on-bike snack.

Each 21g bar contains 2.4g of fat (1.3g saturated), 14.9g of carbohydrate, 6.4g of sugar, 1.1g of protein, 0.8g of fibre, 0.08g of salt and 0.22mg of vitamin B1 (20% of your recommended daily allowance). While it's low in protein, it's high in carbohydrates, making it a good choice before your ride (and during).

The ingredients list is fairly long, so if healthy is your choice the low calories of this bar may appeal but the ingredients might not. Although 37.5% of it is made from cereal, the rest is 11% fruit, palm oil, sugar, fructose-glucose syrup, more palm oil, and preservatives.

It isn't something you'd eat every day, but ultimately it's a handy size snack. I found it as filling as any cereal bar. The size is perfect for stuffing in a cycle bag or jersey pocket. In fact, you can easily carry three. Taste wise, there is nothing at all wrong with it; mixed cereals with chocolate and a hint of raspberry make it pleasant to eat.

I ate them before and during a ride, and they kept me going well enough in lieu of 'normal' food and weren't too filling. I was glad to have them.

The price makes them favourable too. At just £1.49 for 6 (that's 24p a bar) they are cheap. You could stock up on these and have one with you at all times. They are handy on and off the bike at that price.

Verdict

A cheap enough cereal bar that's easy to open and eat. Tasty too!

It's pity they contain Palm Oil. We shouldn't be buying products with Palm Oil in them.

Decathlon do a good range of different cereal bars that are ideal for cycling and some are even cheaper than supermarket offerings. Worth a look.

Doesnt the chocolate melt in your pocket?
I take these sort of bars on ridea, like Jordans, cheap and do the job, I cant bring myself to spend £1.50 on one ënergy"bar. Stupid amounts on wheels, helmets and shoes is whole different matter.
