Aldi Performance Cycle clothing sale this Thursday
We like to keep you updated on the latest Special Buys from Aldi, which frequently feature discounted cycle clothing, and the latest offer takes place this Thursday. This time they’re offering a range of Performance cycle clothing including winter jackets, bib tights, base layers and socks.
For the first time Aldi have produced this video showcasing some of the new garments and their features. It's rather slick and, well quite impressive really.
The Performance Cycling Jacket costs £29.99 and looks to be brimfull of features to keep you keep you cool, warm and dry where you need to be. Aldi don’t go into a huge amount of detail on their website, but we can tell you it’s made from a PerEffect material with what appears from the photo a slim cut. The panels are 3D cut with key moisture zones - okay, okay, mesh panels - to improve ventilation, a tall collar, OptiFit waist and cuffs and a full-length YKK zipper. It’s available in black/grey or black/blue in sizes m-xl.
Pair the jacket with these Performance Cycling Bib Pants for £29.99 for the complete winter cycling outfit. Constructed from a softshell fabric and featuring a Coolmax anti-bacterial silver finished insert and a short YKK front zipper. There are flat seams throughout for improved comfort and foot loop. There are lots of reflective details and “glow in the dark” piping to help you stand out in the dark.

Socks are an important part of any cycling outfit, and these Performance Cycling Wool Socks for just £3.99 look really good. Along with an ergonomic fit, they have toe and heel pads for added protection, a “movability pad” at the top of the foot and ankle padding. They’re available in various colours and sizes from 4 to 11.
We’ll end with the Performance Base Layer, available in a long sleeve top and pants. They’re both made from a compression PerEffect fabric with what Aldi call a 3D cut and moisture zones and what we'd call 'mesh panels' to aid breathability where you need it most.

this 3d cut technology that they use - that's quite impressive. how do you cut a piece of fabric in 3d then?
I have a few bits of theirs but the fit is a problem for me. I am 5'7" and just over 10st and they don't ever do a small so nothing "fits" me particularly well. Certainly not like the illustration.
Can't be doing with the unseemly scrum of gruff roadies at my local Aldi (to be fair, it's in 'leafy' Didsbury) when they do their cycling offers.
The socks look good though. Might give it a try regardless.

How do you know? This is a new range from aldi.
Some of my old crane stuff has out lasted RH+ (Most specifically the fact RH+ seem to use Prit-Stick to keep their logos on).
The only downside is whenever I get around to getting to a supermarket they only seem to have size XXXL thermal base layers left.
I'm still comuting in my Crane shoes from 2005(?)...
What's the sizing of Aldi stuff like? I don't fancy stripping off to check the fit of the tights and jersey in Tottenham Aldi.

They do a small I just think that it sells out almost instantly!
Although it means mixing with the lower orders i find the scrum in not so leafy Burnage to be much more jolly.
I can recommend the socks.
Coincidentally enough I was thumbing through the latest Aldi SpecialBuys catalogue last night, and spotted this gear, looks reasonable for the price. I'm in need of some winter(ish)-proof trousers for the daily commute and can't imagine you'd go too far wrong with these. Just a case of whether they've got any left before I can get up there at the weekend...
Pfff - they open at 8am Thursday - by 9am pretty much everything worthwhile will be gone
Last months Aldi 'Winter Jacket' £15.99 is doing very well for my commute to work. My previous jacket is a £130 Endura Stealth which was getting a fair hammering every day but now saved for the weekends.

have a look at Purnasports.com (uk seller), they have 2 thicknesses and all sizes of base layers....
Aldi/Lidl base layers are always good. Outerwear is hit-or-miss though.
I guess the winter jacket's what I tried on a few nights ago - quite tempted 'cept I've loads of other gear. Wonder if it's still there...
Re sizing - tends to be large. Their smallest arm/leg warmers are *just* small enough for me, likewise the jacket I tried was a small, and it was a good fit (arguably the lower sleeves could have been closer, but had an adjustable fastening.) I'm about 5'9-10, 39" chest, so lower half is Casteli medium, upper half Castelli large, or medium in gore bikewear, both top and bottom. HTH.
Oh, and they're doing a decent little (cree) led torch for 12quid, if they've still got stock..
Socks are a mixed bag - some types have worn well, other less so.
Yawn, nothing for women as usual. But of course we don't do proper exercise anyway, we prefer eating salad.
The previous batch of Aldi kit included a women's merino baselayer which is excellent! (and fits me, unlike all the men's stuff).
dropped into aldi on the way to work, picked up a pair of gloves and had a look at the bibs but they look a bit odd with a strange mix of fabrics. The pad was pretty flimsy as well so I gave them a miss.
Bought a jacket and a base layer top; to wear under the jacket.
The new Pro-Range at Aldi is a lot better quality than their usual cycling gear. This new range is worth the money.

I'm a 5ft.10in, skinny guy (normally take a small size) bought a Jacket and a base layer in the new Pro Range this-morning needed a medium in both! I'm 37/38, chest.
BTW, I tried them on in the store ...
I have had stuff that has been perfectly acceptable for road cycling.
This stigma towards cheap cycling kit strikes me as a bit odd to be honest.
Update: Medium is bang on for me for the jerseys: not quite race fit but snug enough.
Not that impressed with the shorts, tights etc or the base-layer but the "performance" jersey with windproof front panels seems great: definitely worth a punt at £17.99.
Managed to get a couple of the "standard" winter jerseys (presumably left over from last week) for only £4.59 each and some arm and leg warmers for £2.59 each - bargain!
Managed to get hold of a pair of the "performance" trousers. Haven't tried them out yet but the quality seems good for the price (£20), and I'm sure they'll do a reasonable job of keeping the elements out on my 10-minute commute to work.
