Fulcrum launch Racing Quattro wheels

New aero alloy wheels feature in the 2013 range

Fulcrum, Campagnolo’s wheel sub-brand, have announced a new model for the 2013 line-up in the shape of the Racing Quattros.

We saw these all-round wheels – ‘all-round’ in the sense that they can handle a bit of everything rather than that they’re circular; you can take that as read – very briefly last week when we reported from the UK launch of the 2013 Wilier range

The Quattros are alloy clinchers that come with 35mm-deep aerodynamic rims. The alloy hubs feature fully sealed cartridge bearings while the flange on the driveside at the rear is Fulcrum’s Mega Drive design – it’s very tall so the spokes can be shorter on that side. The idea is to increase stiffness and add efficiency.

The stainless steel aero spokes are straight-pull – 16 at the front and 21 at the rear. They’re housed using Fulcrum’s Anti-rotation System which is designed, as the name suggests, to stop them moving. It’s intended to keep spokes at their initial tension and correctly aligned for the best aerodynamics. It’s no good having flat, aero spokes if they spin side-on to the wind.

Fulcrum give a weight of 1,710g - which is competitive - and they’ll cost £299.99 a set. If you’d like to order a pair, check out the dealers on the website of Fulcrum’s UK distributor, i-ride

We have a set coming to Road.cc so standby for a review in the next few weeks.

One a crosswind hits I think I'd be blown off the road on 50mm though. I've not actually tried them, to be fair.

I'ves used them in 20 to 30 KPH cross winds and haven't had major issues!

Should be interesting. At the moment I'm leaning towards Pro-lite Braccianos.

Trev is currently testing a set of these so standby for a review shortly. We have reviewed them before but this is an updated version.

How wide are they? I'm guessing they aren't 23 mm as the current trend is, but are they 20.5 mm like most of their wheels?
