Registration opens for Chase The Sun 2020 with three coast-to-coast midsummer challenges on offer (+ videos)

Two route options in UK plus one in Italy

Registration has opened for next year’s Chase The Sun, the midsummer coast-to-coast endurance cycling challenge that offers two routes across England and one in Italy.

Starting at sunrise on 20 June 2020, the classic Chase The Sun South route runs from the Isle of Sheppey on the Thames Estuary to Burnham On Sea on the Bristol Channel, a distance of 205 miles and with 3,000 metres of climbing.

Chase The Sun North, which made its debut this year with around 150 riders taking part, covers 200 miles with 3,500 metres of climbing, running from Tynemouth in Northumberland to Prestwick on the Firth of Clyde.

Marco Pantani’s birthplace, Cesenatico, is the starting point for Chase The Sun Italia which finishes in Tirrenia, near Pisa, taking the riders across the Appenines and through the landscape of Tuscany. Covering 271 kilometres, it includes 3,300 metres of climbing.

Chase The Sun is sponsored by London Camera Exchange and continues to have Life Cycle UK as its official charity partner.

For the two UK events, there is a new registration system run by Active Endurance Network, which organisers say should make the process easier. The events remain free but there is a nominal handling fee.

Registration for Chase The Sun Italia, meanwhile, is handled by local partner Turbolento and besides the classic one-day event there is also a Chase The Sun Italia Week on offer this year.

I've signed up and am quite excited at the prospect of 205 miles.  No doubt I'll be regretting these words on the day!
