Cyclist killed in Holborn was homeopathic physician to the Queen

Dr Peter Fisher involved in collision with truck on National Cycle to Work Day

A cyclist killed outside Holborn underground station yesterday has been named as Dr Peter Fisher, the Queen’s homeopathic physician for 15 years. The 67-year-old, a world expert in homeopathy, was involved in a collision with a truck while riding on the A40 through Holborn at about 9.30am yesterday.

The collision involved a CCF lorry, a sub-brand of Travis Perkins, near the junction with Newton Street.

Police and the London Ambulance Service attended, but Dr Fisher was pronounced dead at the scene.

He is thought to have been commuting to work when he turned left off High Holborn. The collision occurred on National Cycle to Work Day.

The driver of the lorry stopped at the scene and is assisting police with their enquiries. No arrests have been made.

A spokesperson from CCF said: “We are deeply saddened by yesterday’s tragic accident and our thoughts and sympathies are with the family, friends and colleagues of Dr Fisher at this time.

“We take safety incredibly seriously as a business – our drivers are trained in safe urban driving and our vehicles are required to pass regular safety checks. We are working closely with the police as part of the investigation to determine exactly what happened.”

Officers from the Met's Serious Collision Investigation Unit are investigating and want to speak to anyone who was in the immediate vicinity of High Holborn, near to Newton Street and Southampton Place, who witnessed the collision or the events leading up to it.

Anyone with any information is asked to police on 0208 991 9555 or contact via Twitter @MetCC. Quote CAD 1899/15AUG.

The London Evening Standard reports that Fisher was the eighth cyclist killed in London this year – the fifth following a collision with a lorry.

He was director of research at the Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine (RLHIM) and president of the Faculty of Homeopathy.

Dr Gill Gaskin, medical director at University College London Hospitals (UCLH), said: “We are all deeply shocked and saddened to lose Dr Peter Fisher in such tragic circumstances.

“Peter was a highly regarded colleague and friend of many at the RLHIM, where he worked for more than 35 years.

“He was an international figure in homeopathy who was committed to holistic and compassionate care for his patients.

“He will be greatly missed by his colleagues and patients alike. Our deepest sympathies go out to Peter’s family, friends and loved ones at this difficult time.”

London Cycling Campaign (LCC) are to protest at the junction on Monday from 6pm.

A post on the campaign group’s Facebook page explains: “This is the fourth cycling fatality in this small tangle of one-way streets and junctions in five years.”

LCC previously campaigned in the area in 2013, following  the death of Alan Neve.
