Video: Sorry Mate I Didn’t See You of the Day

Motorist says “look how big my car is” to argue there was minimal impact

A departure from our Near Miss of the Day feature today, in that this particular motorist didn’t miss. The explanation? “I feel like you’re the one that jumped in front of my car because I didn’t even see you.”

She may well feel that way, but watching the footage it’s hard to see how a cyclist could have just materialised in front of her on the otherwise empty A576/Gerald Road roundabout in Salford.

Video uploader David also said that he had two lights on the flash setting – one on the handlebars, one on his head.

In a tweet, he added:” She had a baby in the car too. You'd think that would be enough of a reason to pay attention to the road.”

David said that the collision left him with a sore back and buckled front and rear wheels.

Not that the driver admitted any fault.

“As soon as I saw you, I’ve stomped on my brakes. Look how big my car is. Really, if I’d have hit you with any impact, you would have been on the floor.”

Alex has written for more cricket publications than the rest of the road.cc team combined. Despite the apparent evidence of this picture, he doesn't especially like cake.

So we improve road safety through eugenics? Good thinking Adolf. 7

Stupid people are currently of 'least concern' as regards populations. I think we can afford to lose a few.

In all seriousness if we removed people off the roads based on proper intelligence and impulse control profiling then the roads probably would be safer.

I know many people with low IQ's  (including myself) who are considerate drivers. I also know many intelligent people who are utter $hits. Eg i'm sure Boris Johnson has a huge IQ but I wouldn't trust him to deliver a choc ice to a disabled child without first taking a lick.

Yes, in my previous post I did say i was thick, it's not very polite to rub it in though. It's the kind of thing boris Johnson would do.

Shocker that it happened, bizarre that she attempts to explain it!

"... I feel like you're the one who jumped out in front of my car..."
Christ on a bike, woe betide anybody else who dares to be using a roundabout correctly when she's approaching!

Claims solicitors may be an option, but if you belong to Cycling UK, your membership covers legal representation, and in my experience, unfortunately twice, they are superbly efficient and total experts.

Look around the massive A-pillar, fatso.

Before that, adjust your attitude.

you might want to consider your own attitude and criticise her for their behaviour, not for her appearance.

I thought it was quite restrained compared to the comments by drivers on other forums about cyclists. Of course sinking to their level is never advisable.

I managed to magically 'jump in front of somebody's car' and the first thing i should have done was call an ambulance. I foolishly gave the driver the benefit of the doubt when he said he didn't want to go through his insurance. Not realising how badly injured I was, or how badly my bike was damaged,  I ended up spending hours in A&E, subsequent letters ignored, solicitors involved and no conviction for careless driving. Camera footage is a great help but I dont think you c an beat having the cops on the scene. (Assuming they do their job and know the law!)

Just let her carry on talking, she is hanging herself for being completely ignorant of priorities on roundabouts.  Pass it onto police and insurance, no contest for insurance and police can bypass court and throw her straight in the clink.

"... I feel like you're the one who  jumped out in front of my car..."  when the rider was already on the roundabout!!!!!!

Unbelievable self justification, get this woman in front of a judge.

As has been said above - don't let it go as she may well kill someone especially with that attitude!

The good thing about taking it up with a claims company is that it will hit her insurance premiums (assuming she insures the chelsea tractor).

Nothing less than a clear admission of guilt and profuse apology is acceptable here. "Look at the size of my car"? Really?

This is why video evidence is so important.

1)Clear offence of driving without due care and attention.Report to police.

2) submit a claim through a solicitor specialising in cycling related claims.

If you just let it go, her sh*t driving will continue and next time she might kill someone.

Zero tolerance.

Both of these, and I would add see your GP - you have a sore back, you need to be checked-out, things can crop up a few days later. Cracked ribs, for exampple -mine did not show up when I was examined in casualty following the accident, but I had an irritating cough over the next couple of days, this highlighted the cracked ribs (in spades!)

This has the makings of a regular feature.

I, for one, am looking forward to regular slots.

And, for the love of god!

“I feel like you’re the one that jumped in front of my car because I didn’t even see you.”
