Irish police stopped a cyclist riding a mountain bike fitted with a petrol engine on the M11 on Tuesday.

The Irish Mirror reports that the bike was seized by Gardai at the scene.

The ‘DIY enthusiast’ reportedly had no insurance and no driver’s license (no front brakes either) and will make a court appearance.

Last month Gardai were moved to warn hauliers about making certain modifications to trucks on the grounds that they could prove dangerous to cyclists.

A message on Facebook read: “Whilst the driver thought ‘It looks cool’ this poses a serious risk to cyclists, pedestrians and all other road users. The driver of the truck was required to remove theses before continuing.”
