Specialized launched the completely redesigned Tarmac at the 2017 Tour de France, and we were able to chat with one of the people responsible for the new bike, aerodynamics expert Chris Yu before the race got underway.
You can read the full story of the new Specialized Tarmac, which drops 200g and adds aero and comfort features, right here in our first look story.
The bike in the video above was actually Peter Sagan’s and the video was filmed the day before the race started. We all know what happened to Sagan of course, but he at least got one stage win on the new bike, though Specialized were probably hoping for a few more stage wins.

I am astonished to learn that
I am astonished to learn that it’s stiffer, lighter, more aero and more compliant. If I were doing one of these interviews I would not be able to resist the temptation to announce that “we’ve made this bike far more porky, and designed in way more flex too, at the expense of rider comfort and performance”.
I like the bit about “as ridden by Peter Sagan in this year’s tour”. Not really any need to change the tyres then…
