A cyclist in Poland escaped without serious injury following a spectacular head-on crash with a car, according to police.
The male rider enters a lane reserved for buses before – out of shot – illegally crossing double white lines with traffic coming the other way and is hit head-on by the car.
He is catapulted back across the road, fortunately at a point when there is no traffic approaching.
Renata Rusek-Laszczka of Lublin police told tvn24.pl that the cyclist did not sustain any fractures or internal injuries in the incident and returned home afterwards.
The video, captured on CCTV, happened in the city of Lublin and has been released by police as a warning to road users to follow the law, including obeying road signs and markings, with the cyclist in this instance reported for failing to do just that.

Well, that didn’t look like a very bright move from the cyclist at all, but how fast was that car travelling? Look how far it took the driver to stop after the collision! I suspect this was a very significant factor in this incident.

Darwinian moment from the cyclist trying to clear out the gene pool, but that car WAS moving significantly faster than the other traffic, and I’m assuming he was already on the brakes before we saw him fly past us…..

But why did the car cross the double line? And why didn’t it brake until long after the impact?

Hang on – isn’t the car driving on the wrong side of the road? All we see of the car is that it appears to be speeding down the bus lane the wrong way… Can’t see any evidence of the cyclist crossing into the path of the car at all…

To me the cyclist seems to be turning left sharply just as he goes out of frame, so I don’t think the driver crosses thedouble white line until after the impact. However, it is baffling that the car is travelling toward the double white line so soon after the impact. I wonder whether the driver was sober given the delay in slowing after impact too.

The cyclistt can be seen to turn left and into oncoming traffic, the car has appeared to swerve to its left to avoid the cyclist coming across the front of him.

That’s my reading of it, too. Doesn’t explain the sheer speed at which the car is going, mind.

which one? The person in the car who everyone is assuming is going too fast / at a funny angle / blah blah or the guy on the bike who rode in the wrong lane?
