The HOY 100 is back in 2016 with two new Century rides on Sunday 8 May, taking in some of Sir Chris’s own training roads, and featuring the Olympian himself.
The annual event, now in its third year, will start for the first time from the grounds of Arley Hall in Cheshire, with a 100 mile and a 100km route. The 100 mile route features 4,850ft of elevation around the edge of the Peak District, and the 100km route features 1,565ft of elevation.
Sir Chris will ride the routes with competitors, as in previous years, and although this is the first time he’s not competing in the Olympic Games since 2000, it sounds like he’s been taking preparations seriously.

He said: “I’m still on my bike most days and have been training for the HOY 100 for a number of months now. This is a brand new course which has been designed to take in a few of my more challenging local roads - something that is especially exciting for me. The climb through Macclesfield Forrest in particular is an absolute brute, but it rewards at the top with some spectacular views over the Peak District.”
The event entry fee is £35, which includes a £5 donation to The Scottish Association for Mental Health. Finishers get an SiS bundle, a finishers medal and cotton cap.
