Police witness appeal after cyclist killed outside Wigan police headquarters

34-year-old man died following collision with blue Mazda

Greater Manchester Police are appealing for witnesses after a cyclist died following a rush hour collision with a blue Mazda outside Wigan police headquarters yesterday.

The incident happened shortly after 4.40pm on Thursday 14 May 2015.

A blue Mazda was travelling on Robin Park Road, Wigan when it was involved in a collision with the cyclist.

The cyclist, a 34-year-old man, was taken to hospital where he sadly died.

Robin Park Road was closed for just over five hours but has now been fully re-opened. 

Sergeant Mark Thomas of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said:

“This is a truly devastating time for the man’s family and we are supporting them as best we can with the help of specialist officers.

“We are carrying out an investigation to establish the full facts and circumstances surrounding this collision and are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, or anyone who may be in possession of CCTV or dash cam footage.

“Anyone with information is asked to please contact the Investigation Unit directly on 0161 856 4741 or 4742.”
