Right, we’ve waded through the 1220 comments you left about what you like most about autumn cycling which included having to read POEMS (note to self, never, ever, ever ask people to do that again) but the psychic trauma has been worth it. We have a winner… and because the standard of entries was so high a couple of bonus runners up too who will be getting some roadcc socks.
Our Vulpine Schwag Grab podium is filled by the speakers of two universal cycling truths and one rather personal truth.
Almost but not quite for robbiezhaorobbiezhao for masterful use of the sympathy card with “The cold rivals that of the heart of my wife” - until you realise that it’s not really that cold at this time of the year, even in East Anglia. (Maybe we should send her some socks too.)
Socks also for tells-it-like-it-is “I just love wearing tights” from wrevilo but somehow it lacks the poe… magic of our winner the tells it like it even more is:
“Shining torch through the fog/mist whilst making light saber noises. Obviously…” by Mattclimb
Yep, that's autumn!
Our winner and runners up have been informed - those who posted poems about nature’s paintbrush turning the trees the colours of their fave beige Vulpine shorts - your names are on a list. First offence, but don’t push it eh.
Thanks to Vulpine for a fab competition, thanks to all of you who entered, commiserations to the 1219 of you that didn’t win, but there WILL be another schwag grab along soon.
=====================================================================================
The whole caboodle is worth more than £500 (£502 to be precise) and includes Vulpine’s:
Original Rain Jacket
Cotton rain trousers
Long Sleeve Merino T-shirt/base layer
Padded Merino Boxer/Boyshorts
Storm Cap
Dogtooth Merino Silk Socks
We’ll pick the lucky winner next Monday, usual Schwag Grab rules apply.

Seeing myself getting fatter with those wind-breaker and winter pants and thick socks. Perhaps Vulpine autumn clothing would give me back my shape!!
I look better in a long sleeve jersey.
getting back into my winter wardrobe of kit, then buying a few new bits to add to it!
Riding into the low set sun against silhouettes of hay bails waiting to be collected ... and trying to remember that fierce headwind is actually good training
I like the smell of the wood and coal fired burners/stoves coming from the chimneys of the canal boats as I ride along the canal...
The looks of admiration and compliments in the cafe for riding in rain, wind and cold.
I love the gold in the nature with that unique fresh air during the whole day!:)
The best thing has got to be betting back in the mud!!! MTB and XC with strong legs after a summer of road riding. Loving the empty parks, especially for sunrise on week-ends!
finally (nearly) empty roads again
With dark mornings and darkening evenings forgetting to charge your lights on your work compute. Ddddoooooooohh
Having the right gear knowing whatever the weather, the ride will be great and the scenery wonderful - after all there's no such thing as bad weather, just the right clothing.
The colours and crisp autumn days
Just love the crisp, bracing mornings.
The colours of nature, the oxygen in the air and most of all the lack of summer bicyclists.
Riding in Autumn means lights are a must,
getting the Winter bike out, checking brakes we can trust.
Gloves at the ready warming cold morning hands,
the colours of autumn transforming the land.
Riding in Autumn means slippery hills,
wrapping up well, avoiding the chills.
Low lying sun means you still need your shades
but not for too long as the light quickly fades.
Riding in autumn means men in tights,
only cyclists can do this and still avoid fights
The view at the summit is now not the same,
next summer you'll climb faster because you've toiled through the rain.
Feel so alive in the freshest of weather, thanks to weatherproof clobber.
Hill climbs and the atmosphere that is nothing like any other cycle race!
It's not yet Winter! So keep riding and enjoying those sunny spells. It doesn't rain for most of the time!
Better than _not_ riding in the autumn
Knowing that all the hard work, effort and consistency put in the saddle will make next summer even more enjoyable.
Autumn/Winter rides in the dales, yes please
No need for sunscreen
Getting home from a wet and cold commute, and feeling like you really deserve that cup of hot chocolate.
Layering up for the cool mornings.
Having the bad weather to blame on my slow average speed
Cold, crisp and comfie
Coffee takes on ANOTHER function - warming you up, as well as tasting and making you feel great.
Riding on a chilly moonlit autumn night is a pure delight!
Because it's only 3 more seasons till summer!
Leafy lanes and cake!!
