Horse poo - annoying and/or dangerous?

Havent posted in a while and wondered what everyone thought on this. but I was riding up some country lanes recently and nearly came off due to having to dodge a huge amount of horse manure on the road! Now I know it doesn't cause any ill envirnomental effects like dog mess, but isn't there a case for horse riders clearing at least some of it off the road because of the potential dangers to cyclists? And to be honest when walking on towpaths too it's not ideal having to dodge it, just find it a bit antisocial.

Sounds like you need a gravel bike - no need to swerve, just plough right through it!

scratch that - we need to campaign to make these 'ass bags' compulsory!!

I could do with one of those myself.

I pity those who use mudguards on wet roads. They miss out on this salty and nutritious treat which is left around for free.

Can't say I care tbh. It's usually dry, and doesn't stick much to tyres. bovvered....

It's 'horse city' at my in-laws; there's no health risk from horse poo as they eat grass so it can just be left where it is.  I get loads of the well rotted manure and chuck it on the flower/veg beds.  To be honest, on country lanes, I'd rather farmers clear up the roads after they've dragged half a field of sticky clay soil onto the road.

I hate hitting the lumps of clay on a bike as it can be like hitting a rock, but when you see how they clean it up, imagine a tractor with a gigantic spinning wire brush attachment, almost combine harvester style, that basically than scrapes the road free of the mud and anything else not securely attached it...and then we wonder why our roads get in such a mess.

my issue is loads of soft mud helpfully holding flints in a  vertical orientation  ready to be introduced to tyres

I'd quite happily swap the traffic fumes in the air here for some of your horse poo - how much have you got?

I grew up in that countryside and I'm not sure that riding through horse poo is much of a safety issue. Worth avoiding if only for cleanliness, and keep your mouth shut, because of the flies, but otherwise you should be ok.

Yes,and its not exactly a hazard that takes you unawares 1

Now dog poo left in little bin bags on woodland trails however...

But what would the elves do all day if people didn't leave the bags? They'd have nothing to tidy up!

They could study for their elf and safety qualifications

No shaming here. What squirrels get up to in the privacy of their own gnome is entirely their own affair.....
