Car crashes into building - please post your Local news stories

Running this one up the flagpole to see who salutes...

I just don't remember this being a thing until recently, now it seems a daily occurrence.
Could it be that there are drivers not up to the job, too many cars; should houses be made to ride in single file, shops put on high viz, why are we putting newer buildings in danger like this, it's irresponsible.

'A Dorset Police spokesperson said: "Dorset Police was called at 12.48pm on Thursday, August 13, to a report of a collision involving a car and a wall outside Iceland on Poole Road in Bournemouth.

"It is reported that the vehicle was also in collision with a pedestrian, but they did not require medical treatment." '

Drink driver six times over the limit sentenced after crashing car into house in Broad Street, Sheerness

The defence barrister also noted that since his offence he had been diagnosed with a medical condition and has had further instances of passing out, adding: “The condition does appear to have had some impact.”

Explaining his other offences, she said: “Mr Morland was homeless living in his car and officers stopped him when he was drinking in his car, which was essentially his home.

The driver claims he "accidentally stepped on the gas too hard"

We can expect to see this regularly, along with 'I didn't see him', 'I didn't mean to do it' and 'I don't remember it at all, but I'm fine to drive in future' in accounts of drivers who trash people and buildings and get away with it.

Seems a bit harsh to arrest the driver when it reads like the car did it all on its own.

Autonomous buses in Glasgow using bridges to attack their passengers:

Yeah - and one of the passengers had the gall to say that the *driver* had taken a wrong turn!
Fortunately the BBC was able to ignore that and suggest reasons why the bus might not have seen the forest of warning signs and - you know - the massive bridge.

And they note a bus did the same last year - won't someone find a way of helping these poor buses? Perhaps they could just get rid of the dangerous railways with their deceptive bridges?

Injuries in this one, thoughts with the victims - incidents like this in the past have been horrific.

'Miracle' no one was hurt after car smashes through shop in posh Surrey village

The salon has been forced to close temporarily

One customer wrote back: "This is a miracle that no one was hurt and that the car went into an empty shop instead of either in a full shop or carry on down the road where goodness know who would be around and maybe in danger. Thank you God."

So, if God has the agency and desire to ensure that a shop was empty to avoid casualties, why didn't they use their divine power to hit the brakes and just avoid the collision entirely? Or was the collision utterly unavoidable (motornormativity) and God had to focus on damage limitation?

The case does rather support the theory that previous prison spells of a year or so are not much of a deterrent

But the bollards are untouched, so how did they use a vehicle?

Classic paper headline "Bridge hit by bus" like the poor bus was minding it's own business driving itself along, when out popped a bridge from absolutely nowhere that ripped it's roof off.

Since the police have already charged the driver, with driving offences, why can't the headline be "Bus driver charged after crashing into bridge"

Not just driverless - motionless. It was 'found in a wall' - presumably the wall having been built around it.

There's video of this floating around on X - the driver reverses into the shop for his three-point turn, then goes forward, hits the parked Mini and then into the back of the bus.

I may be a little ginspired myself here - but could there be a link between the medical passing out and the medicating?

No gaol time but a driving ban, although presumably he'll not be required to move out of his home (car)?

If all true it does sound sad. Homelessness can be surprisingly near - to more people than you think. Perhaps one of his former high-flying business pals could help him out with accommodation while he finds some new purpose. And some money towards divorce costs - I imagine that's pricey. And a cheap bike (not encouraging cycling drunk though)!

Any divine entity would surely by now have helped humans implement self-driving cars that never cause harm so that there is no way this type of incident could ever happen.  The fact that such self driving cars don't exist is proof - as if it were needed - that Gods don't exist (excluding Chris Boardman of course).

There appears to be a bollard at a 45º angle mostly obscured by the bins - presumably they were able to remove that and then drive through the gap.

Ah, one of those anachronistic objects! I'm just waiting for "Prius found in prehistoric passage grave". (Maybe left as an offering after its battery would no longer hold charge?)

Thanks, but I'll give Xitter a miss. I never used Twitter back in the day (well apart from an account for automated alerts on servers), but I ensured that I block all Xitter links when it got taken over by Musk. Similarly, I block all FaceBook content too - I deleted my account there years ago.
