Follow-up story, I think. OK, OK it didn't directly hit a solid object.

Hard to know if the charities involved have actually said this guff about hi vis or whether the council have heard what they want to and run with it.

Exeter road closed after car smashes into lamppost and wall
Emergency services, including an air ambulance, have been at the scene

I remember years ago an opticians in Bromley that had it's windows boarded up and they put a sign on it saying "to the driver who crashed into our window, your glasses are ready"
probably avoiding a cyclist
Glad to see that the bridge is still open to cyclists, that's on my regular weekend route
Was that one just a failed ram-raid?
Presumably it had strayed from the path.
20 year old Jonn Esguerra pleaded guilty to having 43mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath after he drove an Alfa Romeo Giulietta into the house in Bridgend, sending bricks flying across the room. There is now a crack along the whole length of the house on both sides.
For that he got a pathetic 12-month driving ban plus £253 in fines etc. They're taking the piss with that sentence.
The traffic sign was not wearing any kind of protective equipment and is currently helping police with their enquiries. It has not presently been charged with any crime.
Flippin' cars, they're a menace to society! 🙄
The car is actually closer to the house which has scaffolding. Later in the article you can see a picture where metal hoops are used as barriers. They would have been hit.
The comment from the dealership say it all really.
And as an afterthought, ''drivers need to play their part in keeping roads safe by checking their mirrors and keeping their distance from bikes''.
Cyclocross opportunity!
"Jerusalem's wall has been broken down, and its gates have been burned down.' When I heard these things, I sat down and wept" (Nehemiah 1:3-4).
and to this thread - it does have to have hit a a solid object to count. There's probably enough to sustain a "(driverless) car flips" thread.
That's my cue, I believe...
1. A man escaped serious injury when the parked car he was working underneath was hit when a woman crashed into the parked vehicle at 5pm on Wednesday on The Spinney. This is a cul-de-sac with a 20mph speed limit on the edge of Newport, Shropshire (street view).
2. Three fire crews were sent to a crash at a roundabout on the outskirts of Horsehay, Telford at 18:50 on Thursday evening after "a vehicle had come to rest on its roof". Highways Agency, West Mercia Police, the West Midlands Ambulance Service and a utility company crew also attended.
3. Oswestry Fire & Rescule were called out at 03:49 this morning. "One casualty was initially reported trapped in a van that had overturned in a field after colliding with a field wall. Upon arrival, the casualty had self-extricated". An ambulance, a paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care Car were also sent to the scene on the A483 south of Oswestry. The A483 was closed again between Welshpool and Oswestry at 11am this morning but is now open. There are so many incidents on that road all the time!
And it would be unfiar to omit the streetlight wrecked on Kerry Road, Newtown, Powys in a one-vehicle crash on the afternoon of 27 August and a single-vehicle incident on the B4389 near Newtown at 5am this morning that closed the road until 1.30pm.
I wish we could see a likely total cost to the taxpayer for every incident reported. Same for each time a sign/bollard/wall/railings gets wiped out.
It's only been a few days but we have another little collection of Star car stories.
1. A man in his 50s died after his van left the B4396 in Knockin and crashef into a field at around 5.10 pm on Monday. 2 fire crews, 2 ambulances, a paramedic officer, the Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care and the Welsh Air Ambulance attended but they couldn't save his life.
2. Two fire crews, ambulance and police were called out after a car overturned at 4.40am on Tuesday in Hilton near Bridgnorth.
3. A tractor driver caused 'extensive damage' to an ancient stone barn in Middleton Priors near Bridgnorth earlier this month. The driver didn't stop and hasn't been identified.
4. A car ploughed into Wyre Florist in Kidderminster at around 6.30am this morning, causing substantial damage (see photo). 6 fire crews attended plus police and an ambulance.
Advice stuck firmly in the 1970s. Today, all it does is enable more driver gaslighting of their responsibility for safety on to - literally - children.
Absurd, and I expect better from those involved, particularly York Cycle Campaign who are usually great. I suspect it's just crap reporting e.g. 'they suggest riders should make themselves more visible [by riding in primary]' has been taken to mean 'wear hi vis'. The fact they're suggesting wearing hi Vis after dark, where it has zero effect, is particularly telling.
