Im up to 75th, don't think Im out of the overall yet, but gonna need some risks
First risk leave out Wiggo tomorrow? or make penalty transfers
decisions
Penalty transfers all the way where Wiggins is concerned, unless you think he was seriously injured yesterday then he's as close to a banker as you can get.
-10 points for the transfer, +45 for stage win and pink.
For now....I still expect him to be in pink after the ITT although the major Disadvantage is that all of his GC rivals will have his time/splits to dose their efforts by.
I'm sceptical it will go all the way, its a punishing late profile and there are enough non GC puncheurs who will fancy their chances of a stage today. I still havent had 1 guy in the break away in this giro
evans
hesjedal
JD ( what happened yesterday?)
Paolini
Rubiano
Battaglin
Garzelli
Locatelli
Mezgec
I didn't have enough sprinters yesterday and have fallen a bit behind, but hopefully that should help me for today and tomorrow.
Di Luca
Wiggins
Battaglin
Sanchez
Kelderman
Pirrrrazzzziiiiiiii
Gruzdev
Visconti
Intxausti
It's tomorrow I am really looking forward to.
Balls.
That group now has over 6 minutes, Rabottini and Boem tried to get across but the peloton shut that down fairly quickly.
This looks like the break for the day and, depending on how much some teams want to work today, it could go all the way to the end.
Taborre, Cataldo, Di Luca and Rabottini are all locals to the area for todays stage
I've gone with this lot
Weening (for Goss)
Pirazzi (for Bouhanni)
Aru
Visconti
Santambrogio (for Nizzolo)
Viviani
Di Luca
Paolini
Cattaneo
caught
Taborre (VIN) gone on a solo break
Hoping Pirazzi goes in the break, Visconti too, then Ventoso/Battaglin 1-2 at the finish, with Hesjedal a brave 3rd for bonus seconds
We can all dream right?
SANTAMBROGIO
SANCHEZ
INTXAUSTI
VISCONTI
HESJEDAL
CLEMENT
PAOLINI
ARU
DeHAES
10 pen points...
I hope three of your transfers work out drh ;). My team;
Rabottini
Pirazzi
Rubiano
Hesjedal
Betancur
Paolini
Battaglin
Gavazzi
Dehaes
Cattaneo (LAM) also reported to have abandoned after an early crash
Dr, your last paragraph reminded me of Keegan when he was manager at Newcastle and that was the season they finished 2nd, so good luck mate
Yeah, given up on the overall so trying the 'throw lots of riders at my team and see what sticks' approach.
I think my problem was that I didn't put any time into planning my race before it started so I was on the back foot from the start.
Usually I make some notes on the profiles and vaguely plan my transfers ahead of time so I know what I want to do then pick the particular riders a couple of days ahead. This time, because of work commitments and other stuff I've just not put any time into it whatsoever.
Currently 148th overall (which is respectable) but I'd hoped to top 20. I'll see how I'm doing when we get to the mountains and adjust my plan accordingly if I think I have a shot of that.
I've been brave/crazy and made 5 transfers (3 of which were penalties).
Rabottini (for Cav)
Visconti (for Viviani)
Pirazzi (for Bouhanni)
Evans (for Dehaes)
Rubiano (for Degenkolb)
Santambrogio
Paolini
Mezgec
Gavazzi
Could go either way, if Rabottini, Pirazzi, Visconti and Rubiano all go in the break I'm quids in, if they don't then all I can hope for is that between them they try and get away towards the end.
Evans is my cover in case it comes to a GC sprint finish because he looks good and outsprinted Hesjedal earlier in the race.
No idea what I'm doing tomorrow, have given up planning and will just make as many transfers as I want
Nibali
Paolini
Rabottini
Kessiakoff
Ventoso
Mezgec
Keisse
Visconti
Zandio
Kessikoff and Rabottini in for Cav/Viviani
I fancy Rabottini to try and get in a break, but that may well be just because of his great ride last year...
Kessiakoff can TT pretty well, but I'm worried he's going to be shepherding Nibali too much today to try getting in the break.
team for today,
Carlos Alberto Betancur
Benat Intxausti
Fabio Aru
Stefano Locatelli
Wilco Kelderman
Giovanni Visconti
Bradley Wiggins
Mauro Santambrogio
Thomas Dekker
Could be a disaster today..
Nibali
Rubiano
Visconti
Ventoso
Degenkolb
Di luca
Pellizotti
Bole
Wauters
Lodewyck (BMC)
Howard (OGE)
DNS
ok so this is how ive gone
Hesjedal (for Cav)
Pirazzi (for Viviani) hopefully will go for some mountain points
Phinney
Paolini
Santambrogio
Visconti
Battaglin
Ventoso
Gavazzi
Ventoso and Battaglin are my wildcards to be at the finish, Pirazzi and Visconti for mountain points and Hesjedal GC. Will bring in Wiggins tomorrow, but then may have to make a penalty transfer to get my team right though
ok, got rid of cav, bouhanni and viviani
brought in evans, visconti and Intxausti
Was sorely tempted by Intxausti, he's the big enigma of the race (for me, anyway, as I've not had the time to go through his stats). Movistar have just looked so impressive this season.
In the end stuck with Nibali. The devil you know...
As a side point, I'm desparate to get rid of my low-value riders who, Taborre aside, have got me pretty much zero points.
I've got:
Benat Intxausti (MOV)
Luka Mezgec (ARG)
Tanel Kangert (AST)
Fabio Aru (AST)
Giovanni Visconti (MOV)
Giacomo Nizzolo (RSN)
Julien Berard (ALM)
Rigoberto Uran (SKY)
Luca Paolini (KAT)
brought in Intxausti and Kangert cause both of them can time trial and they might fancy a knockabout in the hills, Intxausti is 3rd in GC too. Visconti/Paolini/Uran/Aru all remain from previous and hopefully will keep jersey points. Hopefully.
do we know if visconti is fine??
Get rid of Bouhanni, Cav and Viviani for today. They will only pick up points classification points today and you could use the credits on better guys for the hills and tt tomorrow.
I just don't have the in depth knowledge for this, lol.
So is it better to just try and prepare my team for the TT tomorrow>?
I know you guys dont want to give away too many of your picks, but a little bit would be greatly appreciated.
Current team, which did alright yesterday:
Bouhanni
Locatelli
Nibali
Viviani
Aru
Cavendish
DiLuca
Santambrogio
Battaglin
possibly thinking to get rid of cavendish and maybe bouhanni, but just guessing, lol
In my humble opinion Cav and Bouhanni will not feature in the next few days and so I would be looking to bring in GC contenders who can TT and climb....I had Cav and Bounanni yesterday so after the deadline I will publish my team to give you an idea for next time....
