Warmer weather is finally boosting our motivation to get out and ride the bike free from the shackles of heavy winter clothing, and with it our concerns turn to riding fast and toppling some personal best times, setting a sportive target or lining up for a first road race.
If you're in the market for a new road bike and speed is at the top of your list of requirements, we've picked six recently reviewed road bikes that are guaranteed to give you a nice speed boost. Okay, it's not about the bike, it's about the legs, but there's nothing wrong with giving yourself every advantage.
David worked on the road.cc tech team from 2012-2020. Previously he was editor of Bikemagic.com and before that staff writer at RCUK. He's a seasoned cyclist of all disciplines, from road to mountain biking, touring to cyclo-cross, he only wishes he had time to ride them all. He's mildly competitive, though he'll never admit it, and is a frequent road racer but is too lazy to do really well. That's true enough. But doesn't address my point that the chainset you get as a replacement will not physically fit chainrings from the chain set...
