Last minute Christmas gifts for cyclists 2024 — very last minute ideas + lots more for the cyclist in your life

You've left it late, but it's still not too late… here are some top cycling gift ideas, plus all you need to know about final online purchasing and delivery dates

This article contains links to retailers. Purchases made after clicking on those links may help support road.cc by earning us a commission but all of our reviews are fully independent. Find out more about road.cc buyer's guides.

Are you still on the lookout for the ideal gift for that special cyclist in your life? Fear not, as we've curated a selection of eleventh-hour suggestions to make your choice easier. Time's ticking, so let's take a look at these last-minute gems.

We recommend against leaving your gift buying any longer. With time starting to run out, it's best to get on the case immediately. Alternatively, you can buy yourself a bit more time by keeping it local and visiting your local bike shop and asking what they'd suggest, the good old-fashioned way.

Final posting dates

Fortunately, this weekend provides the perfect opportunity to scroll through the internet using this gift guide, ensuring your orders arrive before Christmas.

Royal Mail's final posting dates are:

  • Wednesday 18th December - Second Class, including signed-for
  • Friday 20th December - First Class, including signed-for
  • Saturday 21st December - Royal Mail Tracked 24
  • Monday 23rd December - Special Delivery Guaranteed

For Amazon, last order dates vary, although One-Day Delivery (£4.99, included with Prime) and Same-Day Delivery (on qualifying orders over £10; £5.99, included with Prime) options allow you to cut it fine. That said, double-check the delivery date of any individual item before you pay.

The final Christmas order dates vary between major retailers. Evans Cycles, for example, guarantees arrival to UK addresses before Christmas if you opt for Next Day Delivery by DPD or Evri until Sunday 22nd December. For most other types of delivery, it guarantees pre-Christmas arrival on orders made by Thursday 19th December at the latest. In other words, pull your finger out. For most retailers, the final order date for bikes is earlier than for smaller items.

Chain Reaction Cycles says that for Standard Delivery and Oversized Delivery, the last order date for guaranteed arrival before Christmas is Thursday 19th December. You can order up to 9pm on Sunday 22nd December for Next Day Delivery by DPD and Evri.

Wiggle is similar. You need to order by midnight on Thursday 19th December for Standard Delivery in time for Christmas, and by 9pm on Sunday 22nd December for Next Day Delivery by DPD.

E-vouchers

If you really can't decide on a present, e-gift vouchers to a recipient's preferred cycling retailer make an excellent choice. These are typically sent out automatically via email, so you could even order them on Christmas morning if necessary. Here are some  options:

Right then, here are our top last-minute picks for cyclists this Christmas. If you're looking for more options, check out our other 2024 Christmas Gift Guides. You might still find some of the items included in those are available for next-day delivery!

A lot of alternative takes on the humble cycling lid have ended up on the scrapheap, but this foldable one from Newlane is pretty much the real deal according to our reviewer.

Mostly aimed at commuters - but suitable for bikepacking adventures too - it offers sturdy protection, an innovative design and decent value considering the nifty features. It's not the most well-vented, but that won't be bothering you in the depths of a British winter...

Buy now for £13.49 from Amazon UK
Easy to use
Compact

Tyre levers aren't for stiff beads

Axa's Kabelschloss Roll Lock is a valuable last-minute stocking filler. It's not intended to be the last word in bike security but it will deter opportunistic thieves from targeting your pride and joy when you stop at the cafe, pub or corner shop.

Its size and weight are its big selling points, taking up very little space in a saddle bag, rucksack pouch, jacket or jersey pocket. The Roll Lock is a three-digit combination setup that is easy to use and the 75cm cable is enough to lock a rear wheel and frame to a post.

Hornit Clug Pro

9
An effective storage solution
Buy now for £21.99 from Amazon UK
Simple to install
Minimal, low-profile design
Durable

Minor issues at either end of fit range

If you're fed up with your partner's bike leaning on the wall in the living room, the Hornit Clug Pro is a great gift. It's a beautifully simple but very effective storage solution, particularly where space is at a premium. It takes up almost no space when a bike is not in place and the minimalist design is unobtrusive within a home or office space.

It attaches easily to any wall and the Fidlock function adds extra security and reassurance. The magnetic winch works incredibly well and it's strong enough to hold up to 30kg, according to Hornit.

Topeak Power Lever Pro

Topeak Power Lever Pro

9
The gift of gadgetry
Buy now for £22.49 from Tweeks Cycles
Three key functions
Excellent chain tool, up to 13-speed
Compact
Light
Can be confusing to use the pliers
Don't over-tighten the chain pin
Tyre levers aren't for stiff beads

It's pretty much a given that everyone carries tyre levers when out riding. Even if the gift recipient is a tubeless tyre user, the chances are that they carry a lightweight backup tube from the likes of Tubolito or Schwalbe and a set of levers. Topeak's Power Lever Pro is a set of tyre levers that does so much more.

It has three core functions: tyre levers, a chain tool, and master link pliers, as well as two additional minor functions: storage for a spare master link, and providing a chain hook to make chain breaking and assembly easy. It's an excellent chain tool that's light and compact, and you get the bonus of those tyre levers thrown in.

Tweeks Cycles says that the last postage date for Standard Delivery to a UK address is Thursday 19th December, or the following day for Express Delivery

Defeet’s Duragloves are a modern classic – simple, with a good amount of grip thanks to the gummy logos all over the palms and fingers. They’re great for spring and autumn use, and also milder winter days when it's not cold enough to need a windproof option.

The Duragloves are incredibly hardwearing and will probably last for years. Available in a range of colours, these come with silver yarn at the ends of the thumbs and first two fingers to allow you to operate touchscreen devices without the need to expose your hands in cold weather. They’re awesome!

9
Added security
Buy now for £33.99 from Sigma Sports

Loud and sensitive alarm
Find My functionality
Screws could be longer
No current Android support

The Knog Scout is an effective combination of a tracker and a very loud and sensitive alarm that will easily attract attention, adding some peace of mind when you leave your bike in a public space.

The Scout can be mounted in two ways, either fitted beneath a bottle cage (the stealthy option) or out in full view in a bright yellow cover (the deterrence option). The tracker works in the same way as an Apple AirTag, essentially using other people's phones to identify where the Scout is. Also, you control the Scout predominantly through the Knog app and Apple's Find My app.

If ordering from Sigma Sports, all orders received by 18th December 2022 will be sent on time for Christmas.

Wax Is Dead Bike Ceramic Coating

Wax Is Dead Bike Ceramic Coating

9
To keep their bike pristine
Buy now for £45 from Wax Is Dead
Easy to apply
Protects against scratches
Big initial outlay
Prep is fiddly and time consuming

Ceramic coatings are all the rage in the automotive scene so why not treat the cyclist in your life to a ceramic coating for their bike too. Ceramic coatings create a durable, hydrophobic layer on the bike's surfaces, repelling water, dirt, and contaminants which not only keeps a bike looking pristine but also makes it easier to clean.

The Wax Is Dead bike ceramic coating is expensive but the effects are claimed to last two years and the bottle does multiple bikes. It can be applied to all exterior surfaces, including matt or gloss paint, metal, plastic and titanium. It also works on top of existing frame protection and is even said to help prevent it yellowing.

Wax Is Dead advises you to place your order by 11am on Friday 20th December for UK delivery before Christmas.

Apidura's Packable Backpack is an excellent cycle-specific backpack that squashes down to almost nothing when not in use (measuring 7 x 8 x 9cm in its packed form) making it a cracking solution for when you need to carry unexpected loads in pretty much any situation, on or off the bike.

It's made from tough waterproof material, with a surprising number of technical features such as elasticated mesh pockets and reflective strips. There are cheaper options but Apidura offers a lifetime materials and workmanship warranty and will help with repairs where needed.

To ensure that Apidura gear arrives in time for Christmas, place your order by Thursday December 19th.

dhb Aeron Men’s Deep Winter Softshell 2.0 Impressive softshell at a bargain price

8
Impressive softshell at a bargain price
Buy now for £58 from Wiggle
Good wicking
Extremely comfortable
Excellent protection from wind and moderate rain
Side-entry pockets can be awkward to access

When we reviewed this softshell a year ago, we said that the performance was excellent in all conditions. This jacket does a superb job of keeping the elements out without cooking the rider. We also said the value was very good at £140.

Now you’re looking at a sale price of just £5 on Wiggle Okay, not all sizes are available in all colours, but that’s the nature of sales. It’s most definitely worth taking a look to see what’s to be had.

If you want to take advantage of Wiggle’s Standard Delivery – the cheapest option – you need to order before midnight on Thursday, 19th December to ensure it arrives before Christmas. You can order a little later if you're prepared to pay more.

Exposure Boost-R rear light An excellent rear light

Exposure Boost-R rear light

9
An excellent rear light
Buy now for £69.99 from Tredz
Bright
Several modes
Good runtimes
Great build quality
Pricey

A lot of rear lights look cheap and plasticky but the Exposure Boost-R is anything but. You get an anodised aluminium body, a high-capacity rechargeable battery, and a red XPE-R LED.

It's bright enough to get noticed whatever the conditions, and you can select from a range of different modes and runtimes, so you can choose what's right for any particular ride. It might be more expensive than a lot of rear lights out there, but it’s a lot better too, and should last years.

If you buy from Tredz, you should order before Thursday 19th December for Christmas delivery.

OneOdio OpenRock S Open-Ear Air Conduction Sport Earbuds

OneOdio OpenRock S Open-Ear Air Conduction Sport Earbuds

9
Very comfortable to wear
Buy now for £79.99 from Amazon UK
Comfortable
Good quality sound
Excellent battery life
Touch controls are fiddly
Case is pretty big

If you like listening to music on your bike then it's a good idea to use an open-ear design so that you can hear other stuff that's going on around you. The OneOdio OpenRock S Open-Ear Air Conduction Sport Earbuds are a great choice as they offer really good sound quality, unbeatable battery life, and you can hear the traffic too.

They work well with a helmet and glasses on and are supremely comfortable to wear because you're not putting any pressure on any part of your ear.

Probably the first thing you'd ask if you've been in the market for a pair of open-ear headphones is: how does the sound compare with bone-conduction headphones? And the basic answer to that question is easy: it's much better. The other advantage over bone-conduction headphones is that the sound doesn't alter when you move your jawbone, which is used to transfer sound. If you've ever tried eating while wearing bone-conduction headphones, you'll know why this can be an issue.

Zwift Play

Zwift Play

7
For avid Zwift users
Buy now for £99.99 from Zwift
Easy to fit
Wide range of functions
Good battery life
Brake/steering paddle a bit vague
Slow to pair
Can't turn braking off

As an alternative to an Xbox or Play Station, Zwift Play controllers enable an immersive and engaging virtual cycling experience for the cyclist in your life - providing they use Zwift, that is. The controllers put you in control of everything on Zwift from your handlebars, replacing nearly everything that you'd need a keyboard to do, and they unlock new immersive gameplay, thanks to steering and braking controls.

You can order directly from Zwift. Of course, Zwift recommends placing orders as soon as possible, and certainly before Wednesday 18th December for pre-Christmas delivery in the UK.

DK Sonic Ultrasonic Cleaner - 6 litre

DK Sonic Ultrasonic Cleaner - 6 litre

9
For the cleanest components
Buy now for £179.99 from Amazon
Saves a huge amount of time on cleaning
Gets components cleaner than you ever could by hand
Quick and easy to use
More expensive than normal cleaning solutions
Can't be used for anything with bearings
Not big enough to clean large chainrings in one go
Not recommended for carbon components

The DK Sonic Ultrasonic Cleaner - 6 litre is an extremely impressive albeit expensive product that works incredibly well at cleaning dirt, grime, and oil from drivetrain components or any other small parts. For those who have more than one bike or who always want the cleanest components, this is a great gift.

If you don't know what an ultrasonic cleaner is, it essentially creates microscopic bubbles in water, which can generate underneath dirt and lift it off the component. This makes it ideal for cleaning smaller parts that are difficult to clean by hand, most notably cassettes and chains.

The DK Sonic Ultrasonic Cleaner is available in various sizes at differing prices.

Hard to keep clean

Stiff full-carbon soles, a comfortable fit, twin-dial closure… These have all the features you’d expect of top-end shoes at a fraction of the price of rivals from other brands. Yes, £169.99 is still a lot to spend on a pair of shoes, but for the quality on offer, these are an absolute bargain.

If you’re bothered by the fact that the white finish is bound to get dirty in winter conditions, a black option is available too.

Decathlon, the owner of the Van Rysel brand, advises that you order by Friday 20th December for Christmas delivery.

Must be last years roadcc article recycled with the defunct DHB clothing in it. Why not support British brands like Lusso that are still going?

Not defunct, still available to buy from the link above (albeit now a Mike Ashley emporium).
