The Triban bikes, sold exclusively through Decathlon stores, used to be called B’Twin Tribans, but Decathlon has now shelved the B’Twin name.
Triban’s have gained a reputation over the past few years for offering exceptional value. Take a look at the £249 Triban 100 road bike that we reviewed recently for evidence of that.

I’m at a loss as to why
I’m at a loss as to why Decathlon dropped the Btwin brand name. It had become a highly recognisable contemporary bike brand name (and for the most part respected as good value for money).
Can’t say I have yet warmed to these new Triban models cosmetically. Gone is the sporty look of the previous (or current should I say) series.
I believe in large part it’s the much more minimalistic decals that are leaving me with this impression.
For example the fork is all black generic looking whereas on the current series the same fork has a large white inside section that reads “EVO sport” and Carbon written on the outside.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like a bike plastered in silly decals (the Ultra AF “racing team” blue/black edition now discontinued was a good example of that) but I felt the BTWIN Triban series had a good balance in this area.
Anyway, look is of course only a matter of personal taste and I do hope these bikes sell well. I don’t doubt they are excellent and road bikes with disc brakes don’t typically come this cheap as pointed out.
However it is worth noting that some people don’t care for disc brakes, or at least not if they come at an extra cost as they of course do, and starting at £529 these new Triban’s will not be seen as cheap to a lay person or newcomer.
Presumably Btwin (oops, Decathlon) will release a cheaper non-disc Triban option soon if they are going to discontinue the lower priced Btwin models like the Triban 100 and 500.
