A CCTV camera has captured the moment a cyclist in Newcastle-upon-Tyne faceplanted into the back of a van.

Video of the painful encounter was posted to Facebook yesterday by Georgina Taylor with no comment other than three laughing emojis.

According to the datestamp on the video, the incident happened on the afternoon of last Thursday 10 August.

The driver of the van, which some have suggested bears the city council’s livery, appears to slow down slightly, but the cyclist following him does not and is sent face-first into the rear of the vehicle.

Among those commenting on the video was a driver who slowed down after witnessing the crash and who confirmed it happened on Union Hall Road.

A woman getting out of a car parked by the house from which the video was taken retrieved the rider’s bike from the road afterwards, while the cyclist got to his feet.

We hope he’s okay and that nothing was injured other than his pride.
