Focus has expanded its range of mountain bikes, this time adding a lightweight full-suspension e-MTB with the promise of merging the best of both worlds; the nimbleness of a normal bike combined with the support of a motor. Let’s take a closer look at the Focus Jam2 SL.

Focus says when designing the Jam2 SL the aim was to reduce the e-bike component of it to an absolute minimum, in order to squeeze the best out of every trail.

To do this, Focus has built the bike around a carbon frame and has added the Fazua Ride 60 drive system with a very integrated design. The Jam2 SL features a reasonably progressive geometry with 160mm of suspension at the front and 150mm at the rear.

Speaking of the bike’s geometry, the new bike features an adjustable head tube angle, along with a flip-chip. The former offers a full degree of adjustment, allowing for a head tube angle of 64.5- or 65.5-degrees. The flip chip then allows for some adjustment in the chainstay length, allowing riders to pick from a stable 447mm measurement, or a more agile 440mm.

Large frames will come with a 485mm reach and a total wheelbase of 1,274mm, with the bike in its slackest and longest settings.

With the Fazua system, the brand has opted for a removable 430Wh battery that slides from the bottom of the downtube. This is done with the use of an Allen key that’s built into the bike’s rear axle.

The Jam2 SL employs Focus’s C.I.S (Cockpit Integration Solution) cockpit. This runs all of the cables through the handlebar, stem, and headset for a tidy look. As expected from a Focus bike, it uses the F.O.L.D suspension platform but has gone away with a number of components which is said to result in a big weight loss. The brand has designed this specific platform to reduce brake influences and boost traction.

All of the bike’s frame bearings come with an extra seal to increase their service lives and Focus has designed custom frame protection around areas that are most at risk of damage; the downtube and chainstay.

There will be four models of the Jam2 SL available with the Jam2 SL 9.9 and the 9.0 bikes rocking a MAX carbon frame that’s made using high strength and high tenacity fibres. The 8.8 and 8.7 benefit from a slightly less sophisticated carbon frame.

Prices start at £5,600 and go up to £10,200 for the 9.9 model and there are four sizes available across the range.
