Jon’s been riding bikes for ages and has been involved in the bike industry for most of his working life too, starting out as a Saturday boy at Harry Hall Cycles before moving into the world of media via the odd stint as a mountain bike guide. He’s worked at Singletrack, headed up What Mountain Bike magazine and been tech ed at BikeRadar before arriving at the helm of road.cc’s knobbly tyred sister site off-road.cc.
He mostly rides mountain bikes up and down things as fast as possible (not always that fast to be honest) but isn’t averse to riding drop bar bikes either, whether that’s on gravel or tarmac.

About time. Doh! High speed e-bikes are a menace. They should be banned / or should be road registered only and banned from bike tracks and pavements.

@mdavidford But you can only bind them in the darkness - which ruins your aero because of the headlamp.
Arguably that was a failure to adapt - to a change of regime.
If I'm reading this correctly, the clamp down is because of the number of fatalities and not because of the illegal nature of the bikes, per se. Does this mean that an absence of fatalities would have lead to the clamp down not happening? Or, more pertinently, what level of clamp down is being applied because of the fatality rate involving motor vehicles?
@SecretSam Surely he failed because of his alleged involvement in the Main Plot against Elizabeth I's successor, James I?

I don't know why people keep pushing this conspiracy theory. 1x is popular with consumers, including me. I live in Berkshire and have had a 1x gravel bike for 9 years and works never go beck to 2x For my road bike I still have 2x but on faster group rides I've noticed I barely touch the smaller ring. For my next road bike therefore I am seriously considering a 1x. That said, if I lived in Majorca, Alpes Provence etc 2x def makes more sense on the mountains we don't have in the UK.
@Rendel Harris oops, missed that. I wonder how comprehensive the list of 42 is. It's still going to be really hard to enforce.
