Today is the third annual Cycle to Work Day, and people have been taking to social media to talk about their journeys.
Created by Cyclescheme, the initiative has seen more than 30,000 cyclists and almost 900 employers make pledges via the Cycle to Work Day website, with almost half a million miles due to be ridden collectively.
– More than 20,000 pledge to Cycle to Work Day
Some people got a well-earned breakfast at the end of their rides … here, courtesy of Brompton Bicycle and CTC, respectively …

In Britain’s cycling capital, Cambridge, the Fitzwilliam Museum pointed out that riding to work is very much the norm …

Edinburgh City Council is encouraging people to get in the saddle for their commutes …
It's #cycletoworkday – why not check out our network of routes – at least for the cycle home! http://t.co/Nn9Chtwtuf pic.twitter.com/ZX36QidfAw

… though one poster pointed out that the council itself could do its bit to make it easier for those on two wheels …
on #cycletoworkday wouldn't it be great if @Edinburgh_CC would commit to fewer vehs on cycle paths, and to clearing mud/grass? @CyclingEdin

For those of us who work from home, four-time World IronMan Champion Chrissie Wellington has some sound advice …
It's @cycletoworkday! So I went for a 3hour ride in the Mendips from my house and back again. 🙂 #workingfromhome #cycletoworkday

Meanwhile Twitter user ThreeFromLeith pointed out something that we’re sure applies to a lot of road.cc users …
It's #CycleToWorkDay – nothing special for me since every day (bar Monday) is #CycleToWorkDay!

But if today was the first time you rode a bike to work, that begs the question posed here by Skoda UK …

*hyperbole intended.
I’m feeling pretty miserable
I’m feeling pretty miserable because today on #CycleToWorkDay my bike, which I normally use to cycle to work is on it’s way to Holland ready for me to ride 200 miles this weekend. #MyCycleWeekend is looking good though!
Yeah it was back to school
Yeah it was back to school day in Fareham and it was more like drive your 4×4 to work day, it was noticeably more dreadful than it had been for some time.
Pretty crap on my ride in
Pretty crap on my ride in too. Drivers gave a bloody dead pigeon more room than they gave me! Deffo #drivelikeaprickday
Nice ride to work and back
Nice ride to work and back for me. Third day on the trot (usually only manage a couple of times a week) and first ride on my new DCR wheels 🙂

Busy ride but it appears I missed a section in the highway code apparently I should give way to cars entering a roundabout on my left as its inconvenient for them to stop just for a bike. You learn something new everyday

Every day is a cycle to work
Every day is a cycle to work day unless you are a part time lazy fucker. I was off today anyway. Replaced the bearings and cones in my bike’s rear hub as it was a bit rough after one year and 12,000 miles. Riding to work over the weekend though and monday, tuesday and wednesday ……
