32-inch wheels have been a huge talking point over the past few years, and they’re seeing quite the emergence on the gravel race and cross-country scene. Having unveiled a 32-inch prototype on a gravel bike from Unpaved Cycles at 2026’s Velofollies and stating that the wheels provide “real tangible advantages”, Schwalbe’s 32-inch prototype tyres have become reality, as the brand has added two 32-inch tyres to its gravel range.
Coming with an ETRTO diameter of 686mm are 32-inch versions of Schwalbe’s G-One RS Pro and G-One RX Pro, available in 50mm and 55mm widths – seriously modern stuff.
The move to bring 32-inch tyres to the market has been spurred by the early success they’ve experienced on the gravel race circuit. For example, Robin Gemperle won Unbound XL on prototype G-One RX Pro rubber.
Felix Schäfermeier, Schwalbe’s Head of Product Management, states, “At first, we were sceptical about whether 32 inches would be a meaningful addition. But the more we tested, the clearer the conclusion became: riders on 32-inch wheels definitely notice a difference.
“In terms of tire setup, the new wheel size delivers more stable handling, better traction, and increased comfort, particularly in gravel riding. This also opens up potential for other categories, without diminishing the relevance of other sizes.“
But it’s not just gravel for Schwalbe, as we’re told that the brand plans to release 32-inch mountain bike tyres in April next year.
There have been a good few 32-inch wheeled bikes spotted over the past few weekends on the XC race scene, and we’ve seen a few prototype gravel bikes hit the likes of Unbound, such as Scott’s prototype Addict Gravel. With that, Schwalbe claims that gravel bikes are due to arrive in greater numbers this autumn. That said, we’re yet to see a mainstream brand unveil 32-inch wheels.
