Updated: 4iiii introduces updated Precision 2.0 power meter

4iii has released an updated version of its single-sided Precision crank-based power meter that’s designed to be more streamlined than the original version, and announced a new Precision Pro Dual power meter, which measures power from both legs, that will be available later in the year. We now have prices for the Precision 2.0.

The Precision 2.0 system consists of a tiny pod that’s bonded to a non-driveside crank arm. In that way it’s similar to a Stages unit. 

4iiii claims a weight of just 9g, and that includes the battery. We’ve had a Precision 2.0 power meter in for review over the past few weeks (stay tuned for a review on road.cc soon) and can tell you that it’s unnoticeable in use. 

The system is powered by a single CR2032 3V battery that will last over 100 hours, according to 4iiii. 

“Using a new streamlined and lightweight pod design and building on the robust technology of its predecessor, Precision 2.0 delivers industry-leading 99%+ power accuracy, dependable cadence data, broad head unit and device compatibility through both ANT+ and Bluetooth Smart wireless protocols, easy calibration, as well as over-the-air firmware upgrades using the 4iiii iOS and Android apps,” according to 4iiii.

“Capturing all forces on the cranks in three dimensions (bend, shear and axial) moves traditional power monitoring a quantum step ahead to improve accuracy and lay the foundation for new features,” said Kip Fyfe, CEO of 4iiii. 

The Precision 2.0 will be offered in both Factory Install and Ride Ready options. Factory Install requires you to send a left aluminium crank to 4iiii where the pod will be installed.

With the Ride Ready version you buy an off-the-shelf crank with the pod already in place.

4iiii provides Precision Pro dual-sided power meters to Team Etixx – Quick-Step (we got a pic of this one, below, at Paris-Roubaix), and these will be released in July.

This offering will be introduced through the company’s established Factory Install programme (see above), initially installed on customers’ and dealers’ own Shimano’s Dura Ace 9000 cranksets.

4iiii plans to extend its dual-sided power meter range later on but it’s not yet saying which chainsets will be included next. 

“Power helps riders focus on how their body reacts to training, said 4iiii Precision product manager. “While single sided power meters meet the needs of most riders, dual sided power provides an extra level of data for those fine tuning their training or those monitoring strength progressions when recovering from an injury.

“The company continues to design its left side power meters with the core capability to upgrade to a dual system when it becomes available. Owners and dealers with left Precision power meters on Dura Ace will be able to purchase upgrades online starting in May for a July delivery.”
