Bespoked Bristol 2012 opens Friday evening with show judging and awards

Hardly more than 24 hours until the UK Handmade Bicycle Show kicks off at Brunel's famous Temple Meads...

The beautiful bicycle above made by Norwich's Tom Donhou won the 'Best in Show' award at last year's inaugural Bespoked Bristol, like Tom a newcomer to the traditional world of British custom framebuilding. Also like Tom the show caught the imagination of readers with subsequent features in the Guardian and Sunday Times not to mention a host of style mags, blogs and all the specialist magazines and websites.

This year's edition opens in barely more than 24 hours, just down the road from last year's venue in a Victorian railway shed in Bristol twice the size to accommodate the doubling in exhibitor numbers. The format stays the same however with a Friday evening session opening at 5pm with judging in which road.cc will be lending a hand before a prize presentation at 7.45pm and the well-deserved clinking of beer bottles.

Visitors get to choose their own winner in the 'Public Vote Best of Show' which will be awarded Sunday afternoon. Everyone who chooses the winner gets their name in the hat to draw a handmade leather saddle made by competition sponsors Brooks. Last year's 'public vote' was won by Demon Frameworks who went on to win at the North American Handbuilt Bicycle Show just finished in Sacramento. Make sure you pick up your voting slip as you enter the exhibition, as British voters are clearly trend-setters.

New Builders feature

An innovation for the 2012 Bespoked show is New Builders showing off young framebuilding talent just starting out and not yet working at a commercial level. A place to spot future Bespoked winners, maybe?
