Arrest made after Bristol bike thief is filmed by bystander

Social media debate had centred on whether person who shot the footage should have intervened

An arrest has been made after a man was filmed stealing a bike from a rack in Bristol. The footage, filmed on College Green, showed a man using bolt cutters to take a bike that he claimed was his own.

When it was posted to Facebook, the video elicited much discussion about the actions of the man who had filmed it with many questioning why he had not intervened more directly.

However, the BBC reports that Avon and Somerset Police have now confirmed that a 47-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

One Facebook user pointed out: “this bloke is always nicking bikes around town. He gets very aggressive if challenged.

“So the bloke filming was quite right not to stop him. Seen him on waterfront before. Nasty piece of work.”

Alex has written for more cricket publications than the rest of the road.cc team combined. Despite the apparent evidence of this picture, he doesn't especially like cake.

I don't think I could stop myself intervening, but it's probably far more usable as evidence without intervention.

I hope they use the bolt cutters on part of his anatomy.
