Normally, the only person who’d get near the legs of a rider who’s just won a 265km Monument would be his soigneur. Not so yesterday at the Tour of Flanders, however, where the toddler son of Alexander Kristoff sought refuge between his father’s pins, currently the hottest properties in cycling.

The cause of the nipper’s alarm? Well, Kristoff junior, dressed head to toe like his father in Katusha kit, had taken fright when the Champagne bottle placed by the second step of the podium, destined for Etixx-Quick Step’s Niki Terpstra, exploded suddenly, sending a column of bubbles skywards.

The following video of the premature jubilation moment posted to Vine subsequently went viral on social media.
