Wilier

Founded in 1906, Wilier Triestina is an Italian bike company best known for high-end carbon fibre race bikes.

Pietro Dal Molin founded Wilier in Bassano del Grappa, Italy, but unlike most Italian bike companies he didn’t name it after himself. Wilier is an acronym for “W l’Italia liberata e redenta”, where the W is an abbreviation for “Viva!”, so the phrase means “Long live Italy, liberated and redeemed.”

Triestina comes from the city of Trieste which was not part of Italy at the time; the name ‘Wilier Triestina’ reflected a patriotic desire for it to be rejoined.

Notable Wilier bikes include the Zero.7, built around an ultra-light frame with a claimed weight of 799g; the Zero.9, which Wilier says combines the best of classical bike design and modern materials, and the Cento1Air aero road bike.
