Council cools backlash with promise of another vehicle space "in due course", explaining that the cycle parking was installed "as part of efforts to promote environmental sustainability by encouraging cycling"
Last month, Queen’s University Belfast opened three new on-campus cycle parking facilities as part of ongoing active travel efforts – but students say they’ve walked into lectures an hour late because “there’s no place to park”
Amidst the backlash against the council for the proposal, the cycling group has put forward another radical idea: stop “facilitating car-based shopping with free parking and drive-in catering”
Despite the council announcing mitigation for blue badge holders, tradespeople and emergency service workers, the news that parking spaces will be removed to make way for the cycling infrastructure has not gone down well
Proposals to replace 33 parking spaces with a protected bike lane have been criticised by artists who display and sell their work in the area on Sundays – though the council has noted that there are 650 spaces located within 500 metres of the exhibit
The owners say the introduction of double yellow lines on York’s West Esplanade would “increase the danger to pedestrians, rowers, and café customers”
Huddersfield residents hit out at the council's plans to boost active travel with "ill-conceived cycle lanes"
New housing and offices near public transport links will be car-free
Err, probably not
Following lobbying from residents Stoke-on-Trent council will move cyclists onto shared pavement with pedestrians
