Thanks Malcolm, looking forward to finding some new routes!
Not a member of a club but also live in South Birmingham. Head south towards Redditch and within 15 minutes you'll find hours of fun on country lanes crossing the countryside. There's always somewhere new to explore and the weather recently (including last night when I was out for a few hours) makes for super nice rides. I have seen some of the clubs out and looks like a friendly lot.
Enjoy
One other question lc1981 - is there a map of the route for the Wednesday night ride online anywhere?
I can't find a route map as such, but this Strava segment covers most of it apart from the final section back to the start, which just follows the way out in reverse: http://app.strava.com/segments/3635572.
Thanks lc1981, that's great. Wednesday night ride sounds good and I'll take a look at the Beacon RCC site. Cheers!
I'm a Beacon Roads CC (http://www.beaconrcc.org.uk/) member and can recommend the club as friendly and active. We organise lots of club TTs, two open TTs (including the Little Mountain Time Trial - http://www.bikeradar.com/blog/article/the-beacon-rcc-little-mountain-tim...), circuit races and a number of Audaxes. We meet for club runs at 9am on Sundays outside the Black Horse in Northfield. There's also a regular Wednesday night training ride leaving from outside the Red Lion in Kings Heath (next to Moseley) at 7pm. Last night we averaged 32 km/h over a distance of around 60 km. Anyone is welcome - club member or not. Members of several local clubs meet at 7am on a Saturday outside what was Birmingham City Cycles on Bristol Street for a fast training ride. Hopefully there's something there that suits!
