Nominations open for London Cycling Awards 2013

Names invited for shortlist of ten categories, five of which will go to public vote, with Ned Boulting hosting awards in May

The London Cycling Campaign (LCC) has opened nominations for its London Cycling Awards 2013, and is inviting those who cycle in the capital to put forward names of people or organisations they think should make the shortlist. The awards, overhauled for 2013, are being staged in partnership with the London Evening Standard.

The winners will be announced on 8 May at an awards ceremony at St Martin In The Fields, Trafalgar Square, with ITV4 cycling presenter Ned Boulting hosting the evening.

Announcing the new-look awards, with individual categories sponsored by companies including Brompton, Cyclehoop and Madison, LCC chief executive Ashok Sinha said: "We’re calling on Londoners to nominate their favourite retailers, products, projects and initiatives, to celebrate the champions of cycling in the capital.

“There's never been so much excitement around cycling in our great city, and these promise to be the best London Cycling Awards ever."

Nominations will be open until midnight on 16 April, and are invited in ten categories through an online form you can find here.

The winners of the following five, once nominees have been announced, will then be determined by public vote, the first time LCC has taken that approach:

4. BEST PRODUCT

5. BEST RETAILER

In the other five categories, the winner will be chosen by a panel of judges. For those categories, which are listed below, LCC asks people to outline on the nomination form why they believe their choice is deserving of an award.

6. BEST COMMUNITY PROJECT

The project that has most successfully inspired communities in London to cycle more

7. BEST BOROUGH CYCLING PROJECT

The award to acknowledge the London borough cycling programme that has best engaged

10. BEST WORKPLACE INITIATIVE

and encourage cycling

LCC is asking supporters to spread news that the awards nominations are open through Facebook and Twitter.

After the nomination pricess closes on 16 April, a shortlist will be drawn up for the five categories going to public vote, which will be open from 19 April to 1 May.
