I got in after multiple multiple tries. I actually didn't know how lucky I was until after reading when the event had sold out. Really excited and have friends who live in Motala, and have been there working, so they knew it was to be very busy this year. Beautiful place.

HI,
Vätternrundan is an amazing race and worth the effort to train and chase an entry for. Unlike other sportives the race organisers re-fill cancelations so you should contact the organisers and see if they have any places. Explain that you are a an overseas entry and that will help your case too as they want to have more international flavour to the race.
If you have any other questions then please let me know and I will try to help you best I can.
Kind regards,
Penny

Hi Penny, All,,

That's how I got last years entry. They open for swapping in March. Fortunately this year it's looking like I'm going to ride with a sub8 group from a club in Stockholm - Fredrikshoff.

Good luck to anyone else riding, and if you want to say hello, or if you need help with the transfer process, PM me!

I've done it twice now. Not doing this year, but going back again next year I hope. Some tips:

1. Group riding is absolutely vital if you're aiming to go quick. There are lots of groups on the road (one sets off every couple of mins throughout the night), so if you don't manage to organise with anyone then just pick a group on the road. Most are well organised, as lots of nordic clubs do it, so if you can ride through and off you can get involved easily and share the work.

2. Eat lots. Even more than you would if you planned to eat more than you think you need... 4 It's a seriously long ride, and if you're doing it at pace you'll burn an enormous amount of energy - which won't show up until the last quarter... They have good food stops (sweetened buns and gherkins are remarkably good energy food!) but take loads of your own bars/gels or whatever you normally use, and eat as often as you can stomach.

3. Plan for wide ranging weather conditions, especially if riding at night - the temperature can range from low single-digits overnight to high-teens or twenties in the day. Rain isn't unusual, but neither is sunshine - I got a tocuh of sunburn last year! Layer up to make sure you can adjust clothing as you go along.

4. Don't fight the headwind too much. Because of the shape of the lake, the ride basically heads in one direction for half the distance and in the other direction for the other half. That seems to mean headwind half the way, tailwind the other. Don't fight too hard on the headwind sections to keep the speed up - just work with a group and keep the pace sensible. You'll make it back on the tailwind sections, where you'll feel like you're flying!

4. Enjoy yourself! It's an amazing ride - brilliant atmostphere, fantastic support and an all round awesome experience.

Feeling quite envious after that... oh well, next year!
