I was in exactly the same position, I'm riding around 200 miles a week and was previously using the Garmin / Strava app for recording some stats but the apps simply keep falling over on my iPhone.
So I opted for the 200 as I already have a HRM and I'm not fussed about Cadence. It has Current Speed, Distance and Time as the main three fields and a further field you can change for total ascent, calories, and avergae speed. You can also get it to scroll, kinda cool.
I got mine online at Dooleys for £99 AND you get a free Team Garmin Slipstream jersey worth around £40 ! (Although I think they have now gone up to £109)

Cheers mate, however one of the lads was selling a 500 for 118 quid so i took the plunge and bought it - BNIB so i cant complain.
Great! I think from what you have said you will be happier with the 500
Well i went to my local bike shop today and spoke to the staff about the 200 and the 500. Both got the thumbs up so i'm no further forward. Will wait and read the review carried out by Mr Atkinson before i make my mind up.
I've got a 200, really like it. It's more money than a standard computer, but I really like being able to see where i've been, especially as a lot of the time I tend to just follow my nose and make up routes. Also it's very simple to use, has a long battery life and looks and feels nice to use.
All that being said i've started to use a turbo trainer and being able to measure HR or cadence would be good.
It's true though that it is 60 pounds more.
The price of new bibshorts? or a set of decent tyres? Or a meal out for four?
It's proper wicked
Definitely go for the 500, the functions are mostly the same, but if you are a dataphile, I'd say that there is no better option.
Two words: 8 field
You think it's overkill, but having all that information is wonderful.
And Thor used one last year.
testing a 200 at the moment. can't say whether it'll get a good review or not, but here's a happy face to ponder until the review comes out.
Doing only 80 odd miles a week i cant justify getting the 500 as i dont think i will use it to its potential, but thanks for the update will bear it in mind if i dont go for the 200.
You say you can't afford the 500, but have you checked out halfords? I got my 500 for £153 from there, and I'd choose it every time over the 200. more stats, HR and cadence are a massive training aid.
If your doing about 80 miles a week it will be perfect, imo i got one for xmas, the screen is brilliant, really clear and easy to read and works well in all lighting conditions, and theres a great backlight too.. I was a bit disappointed at first it didnt have the barometer for climbs and stuff, but garmin connect/strava do all that afterwards and there is a setting that tells you as youre going along but its a bit crude. I just leave it with speed, distance and avg spd. Can save loads of rides on it for uploading too. Its not ANT so wont work with HR monitor or cadence sensor, worth bearing in mind. Ive not tried the 500 so cant comment as a comparison. Anything else you wanna know that i might be able to help on then let me know. Dan
