Cycling Santas spread seasonal cheer in Brighton

'Mr and Mrs Claus' hand out envelopes containing fivers on Christmas Day...

A pair of cycling Santas in Brighton spread seasonal goodwill to residents of the South Coast resort on Christmas Day by riding around the city’s Preston Park and handing out envelopes containing £5 notes to people enjoying a festive stroll.

The Argus says that the envelopes, besides the money, contained a card signed by ‘Mr and Mrs Claus’ with a festive message and an email address, mrclaus [at] idontbelieveinsanta.com, with an invitation to send their own greetings.

The newspaper tried to contact the mystery bike-borne benefactors, but received a reply from a certain Bob, who described himself as ‘Elf-in-charge’ and living at the North Pole.

Bob told the Argus: “I shall pass your comments onto Mr. and Mrs Claus who, as you might suspect, are having a little rest after the festivities.

“I am under strict instructions not to discuss the Claus's activities at any time of the year, especially over the Christmas period. I'm sure you'll understand,” he added.
