Arrest made after lorry driver who hit cyclist stopped to check vehicle then drove off

Police in Norfolk have made an arrest after a lorry driver hit a cyclist early this morning then stopped and checked his vehicle before driving off.

Norfolk Constabulary says that officers were called at 5.30am following reports of the cyclist, a male aged in his thirties, lying in the road on the A47 at Thickthorn. He is saidf to have sustained "life changing injuries."

He had been cycling along the eastbound carriageway between the Thickthorn and A140 junctions when the collision happened. Police said he was taken to Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

According to the Eastern Daily Press, the witness who reported the incident to police said that the lorry driver stopped to inspect the damage to his vehicle before getting back in his cab and heading off towards Great Yarnouth.

Police subsequently traced the vehicle and say that a man from Hertfordshire, aged in his forties, had been arrested and was due to be questioned today.

They are appealing for anyone saw the collision, or who witnessed the manner of driving of the lorry or bicycle beforehand, to contact PC Andrew Lincoln at Wymondham Roads Policing on 101.
