Video: Cyclist rides on beach... and faceplants into the sand

A rare major-injury-free face-first crash

Rumours that the following video was shot during the team time trial in the 2015 Vuelta a Espana cannot be confirmed (because they are untrue).

It is nevertheless an impressive piece of cycling in its own way.

Behold the strong bond between pedals and cleats! (But maybe mute your speakers if you’re likely to have an issue with the inevitable adult language.)

The video brings to mind a few other great head-first spills. Our favourites include Go on Ian! and Joey’s Okay!

A mention also for this rather more deliberate effort during what appears to have been a spectacularly muddy race, even by the standards of cyclo-cross.

Alex has written for more cricket publications than the rest of the road.cc team combined. Despite the apparent evidence of this picture, he doesn't especially like cake.

The cycle racks that were installed where I used to work, after I campaigned for them, were across coarse gravel. The first time I attempted to ride up to them I came to a sudden halt and would have fallen off in similar fashion had I been going faster.

Good job he was wearing a helmet. That could have been nasty.

(Does it need a winky smiley? )
