Shimano officially unveils new S-Phyre shoes

Shimano has officially announced details of its new S-Phyre shoes that sponsored riders have been using this year. 

We gave you a quick look at the S-Phyre shoes earlier in the summer when we spotted them being used by Team Giant Alpecin’s John Degenkolb.

“The S-Phyre concept has one goal: to maximise power transmission by delivering more performance and making the most efficient use of the connection points between the bike, the footwear, the movement of the rider and the rider’s muscles,” says Shimano.

The Shimano S-Phyre RC9 features a one- piece outer made from a Teijin Avail microfiber synthetic leather that’s said to be supple, stretch-resistant and highly breathable with perforated dimple vents.

Closure is handled by two independent Boa IP1 dials with wire lacing.

Shimano claims that the carbon sole is ultra-rigid. 

An external heel cup and the lack of a lasting board keeps the weight down to a claimed 232g.

The S-Phyre RC shoes are available in sizes 36-48 including half sizes and wide fitting options.

The S-Phyre is also available in an XC9 mountain bike version.

Shimano announced the RC7 (above) a few weeks ago. Again, it has a lightweight carbon-fibre sole, a synthetic leather upper and a Boa IP1 dial although the design is quite different.
