Our Tour de France Strava ride of day on Stage 4 – Oliver Naesen

IAM Cycling rider was in the break that spent more than 200km ahead of the peloton

IAM Cycling’s Oliver Naesen got into the four-man break on yesterday’s Stage 4 of the Tour de France with the quartet riding hard after escaping with 15km gone and spending more than 200km out in front before being swept up with 7km remaining.

At 237.5km it was the longest stage of the race and thanks to his exploits Naesen, one of nearly three dozen riders who are uploading their data daily to Strava, is our pick for Strava Tour de France ride of the day, with his stats showing an average power output of 250 watts over nearly six hours.

Given such a long day in the saddle, we can forgive the Belgian rider for getting the stage number wrong on his upload.

The stage was won by Marcel Kittel of Etixx-Quick Step whose team mate, Iljo Keisse, also uploaded details of his ride to Strava, showing that in the final 8km the peloton had an average speed of 46.1km.

Points: Edward Theuns, Trek Segafredo (7)
