Bicycle retailer Evans Cycles will be providing technical support in London next Saturday and Sunday for the Open Garden Squares Weekend to ensure that mechanical problems don’t hamper those using pedal power to get between venues.
More than 200 gardens will be participating in the event, which is organised by London Parks & Gardens Trust, which is encouraging visitors to get around by bike or by foot as they enjoy a chance to explore some of the capital’s green spaces that are often out-of-bounds to all but the residents who live nearby.
Evans Cycles will be on hand at Russell Square to provide advice and on the Sunday will be providing free repair and tune-up from 9am onwards to ensure your bike is in tip-top condition for the day.
There will also be a series of organised rides which are not compulsory but will help you get the most out of day, as follows:
Saturday, June 12 – meet at 10am outside the café at the north end of the Broad Walk, Kensington Gardens for a ride around the gardens in Kensington & Chelsea and Hammersmith & Fulham. Will finish by 5.30pm.
Sunday, June 13 – starts at 10am outside St Paul’s Church at the west end of the Covent Garden Piazza for a tour of gardens in Islington, Hackney and Tower Hamlets. This ride will include one of the first two cycle superhighways and the Green Bridge. Will finish by 5.30pm.
Tickets to provide access to all gardens involved in the weekend cost £7.50 in advance if bought through the Capital Gardens website – the deadline for orders is Monday – or £9 on the day.
Meanwhile, podcasts and self-guided bike rides can be downloaded from the London Gardens Trust website and the Open Squares website, which also has full details of participating venues.

DOT4 is pretty aggresive stuff (nothing melted), mineral oil is probably OK on EPS hemets. I'm surprised this is allowed on planes.
