Fans raise £28,000 for Martyn Ashton in 20 hours

Crowd funding site was set up after the paralysed star of Road Bike Party 1&2 announced he'd sell his famous bike to pay for ongoing care...

Martyn Ashton fans have raised almost £28,000 in just over 20 hours after they found out he was selling his Colnago C59 Disc road bike to pay for ongoing care.

The much-loved star of Road Bike Party and Road Bike Party 2, which have received more than 28 million YouTube views, suffered a life-changing spinal cord injury in 2013 that left him paralysed from the waist down. He was planning on selling the bike that starred in Road Bike Party 2, to pay for much-needed but costly rehabilitation equipment, when fans intervened.

The original £7,000 GoFundMe target has now been exceeded almost four times, and Martyn Ashton says he’s speechless at the response.

In a post on his Facebook page Ashton says: “I've been blown away by the response to my post about selling the Road Bike Party 2 Colnago to aid my 2016 rehab plans.

“Thank you so much for the support and encouragement. So after much thought, here is the official GoFundMe page. Thanks again.”

Fans have responded on Facebook telling Ashton what an inspiration he has been both before and after the accident, and are encouraging Ashton to keep the Colnago and accept the money as a token of their esteem.

The GoFundMe page is here.

It's such a heart wrenching tragedy. And yet, Martyn displays such an exemplary courage.

Chucked a few quid in early - the total is really climbing - over £36k now.  Always loved watching Martyn (and Martin)'s videos so it's the least I could do really.
