Video: Geraint Thomas back at London's Olympic velodrome for Revolution's Longest Lap

Team Sky star doesn't quite reach heights of summer of 2012...

Geraint Thomas was back at the scene of one of the highlights of his career on Saturday evening – the Lee Valley VeloPark in London, where he won the second team pursuit Olympic gold medal of his career at London 2012 – and according to Adam Blythe, engaged in a bit of skulduggery in the popular Longest Lap race.

Thomas finished third in the scratch race as he returned to track racing, but was disqualified from the Longest Lap, with Orica-GreenEdge rider Blythe laughing afterwards that he had spotted the Team Sky rider giving rivals a bit of a nudge as he waited for the start.

Afterwards, Thomas said of his return to the venue: “It was strange actually, there is lots of fond memories; my legs feel a little different to how they were back then.

“It's great to be back in this velodrome, it's my first time since the Olympics.”

Of his performance, he said: “It was hard going after my long break. I got stuck in and hopefully when I return in Glasgow I can do better.

“It's the biggest break I've ever had in the off season and I made the most of it but it’s time to knuckle down now,” he added.

Revolution Series organisers Face Partnership introduced the Longest Lap to the programme in October last year after spotting a road.cc report on the so-called Marymoor Crawl in the US, and it has swiftly become a crowd favourite.
