Sticky-out bits on saddles in the pro-peloton

While watching recent races, I've noticed that a few riders have what looks like a black plastic thing sticking out from underneath their saddles. In the Tour, it seems that they have all got this addition. Does anyone know what it is? Is it a camera or something to do with telemetry? Do I need one and will it make me go faster?

When they change bikes the team need to inform the race commissaires; that's not a new thing, they already did it to keep track of the timing transponders.

It's the latest form of doping... Some kind of mini rocket booster!

Spare bikes don't have the telemetry yet. It would cost a bomb to equip every bike.

If they change on to bike without the sensor quite simply they lose it.

On the climb up the Mur de Huy yesterday they had readouts on the TV for the real time speeds that some of the riders were doing. I guess that must be from this.

Thank you. I thought it might be something like that.

So what happened when Cancellara (and probably other riders) had to change bikes yesterday? I might be wrong but I don't think his white bike had a sticky-out-thing.

Telemetry kit from the new TdF partner Dimension Data. DD are in many technology sectors and one of those is data analysis & presentation. So look out for new ways that official channels will present rider information.

One thing that appears to be more accurate already is the time gaps between riders/ groups. I expect more visuals to be shown when the race hits the mountains with the possibility of rider positions to be shown over terrain overlays.
