The cyclo-cross world cup won't be returning to Milton Keynes in 2015, despite the success of the round of the series in November 2014.
According to the organisers, the 2014 venue, Campbell Park, will be used as a fan zone when the Rugby World Cup comes to Milton Keynes in October 2015 and Milton Keynes Council don’t feel able to deliver two world class events within such a short space of time.
The organisers said in a statement: "We’re sad that we can’t continue but were overwhelmed by the reaction and feedback we received after the event; we are proud that we were able to host the first World Cup in the UK and outside of mainland Europe and hope it will encourage other countries and organisers to step up and do the same.
"We’ll be working hard to try to do it again in 2016; whether in Milton Keynes or somewhere else remains to be seen, we just need to find another killer venue and a pot of money. Easy, right?!
"Finally, don’t be too hard on MK for not supporting it in year 2. The fact is they stepped up and supported an event they knew nothing about based on some vague promises that ‘if we build it they will come’. They put a lot of money and effort behind it and without that, well we wouldn’t have even had the taster of a year 1.
"Thank you Milton Keynes, your name will always be synonymous with Cyclocross in the UK and we hope people will talk about it for a few years, just like they did with Leeds ’92."
John has been writing about bikes and cycling for over 30 years since discovering that people were mug enough to pay him for it rather than expecting him to do an honest day's work.
He was heavily involved in the mountain bike boom of the late 1980s as a racer, team manager and race promoter, and that led to writing for Mountain Biking UK magazine shortly after its inception. He got the gig by phoning up the editor and telling him the magazine was rubbish and he could do better. Rather than telling him to get lost, MBUK editor Tym Manley called John’s bluff and the rest is history.
Since then he has worked on MTB Pro magazine and was editor of Maximum Mountain Bike and Australian Mountain Bike magazines, before switching to the web in 2000 to work for CyclingNews.com. Along with road.cc founder Tony Farrelly, John was on the launch team for BikeRadar.com and subsequently became editor in chief of Future Publishing’s group of cycling magazines and websites, including Cycling Plus, MBUK, What Mountain Bike and Procycling.
John has also written for Cyclist magazine, edited the BikeMagic website and was founding editor of TotalWomensCycling.com before handing over to someone far more representative of the site's main audience.
He joined road.cc in 2013. He lives in Cambridge where the lack of hills is more than made up for by the headwinds.

Richmond Park - iconic and enough terrain you could put some great features in (a deers-mount, anyone). And its convenient to me. And it would really piss off so many of the anti-bike brigade it would be just fantastic.
The fact that they are open to running it elsewhere in 2016 makes you wonder why they didnt try that for this year. I suppose there are probably many reasons including scheduling with UCI which left them without time, it obviously took a lot of effort to set-up. Best of luck to them for 2016.
