Would also appreciate some advice on this. Have provisionally booked accommodation in Wetherby for the first stage with a view to going to Leeds for the Grand Depart and hoping to later catch the race close to Harrogate towards the end of the stage. For the second stage we have booked in Glossop to watch the race from Holme Moss. We won't have bikes with us and need to drive to the stages. Have no knowledge of these areas so I would appreciate any local advice on whether we will be close enough to the stages and able to drive to them early on the morning?
Cheers all-will take a look
Try Hill Top Farm near Leyburn. Perfect location for a short ride to Whipperdale bank for the last cat 3 climb of stage 1.
If you want cheaper camping with basic facilities try the various Rugby clubs on the Day 1 route.
I know them all very well.
Skipton,Wharfedale,Wensleydale Ripon and Harrogate are all offering camping on the pitches with use of the clubhouse facilities.
All have websites to book and I would expect a good drink induced atmosphere at all of them!
I live on the route and own a field to which I have carte-blanche permission from the local council to use for camping if I wish to do so. I dont.... but there will be plenty of ad hoc campsites.
For Day 2 choices, I would also chance the Rugby Clubs near to the route for showers, toilets and beer!( I don't know the route as well but easy to find out).
Come to sunny Yorkshire!!
Thanks, will take a look! Yeah, just looked up Velofest and its ridiculous for what is basically just to pitch a tent? Been researching and thought this campsite looked good and is reasonably priced: www.Nidderdalebikefest.co.uk
I stayed here a few years ago and it's quite close to Holme Moss. It's reasonably priced (unlike some of the pop-up sites that have appeared at various locations).

Personally I'm going here for the day http://www.tourdefrancesheffield.com/steel_stage.html
I'm not camping as it's very close to home. I was thinking of riding out to see the Tour at Holme Moss, but parking will be a nightmare and my family wanted to see the race too so cycling is out.
Yep, there are some "sites" that are stupid expensive and are completely taking the back out.
