@Rendel Harris yep, that would have looked interesting! I think we all know though that at the first downpour it would actually turn into a canal, given the usual standards of drainage on cycling infrastructure! It would also make it more difficult to cycle to destinations on Oxford Street, rather than just through it. I'm thinking a wide median, with planting, lighting, seating, maybe a few public toilets and of course plenty of Sheffield stands for bicycle parking. With one-way cycle lanes either side.

Good, I'm glad justice has been done. But this isn't the first time a cyclist has been killed at this junction. https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/cyclist-dies-after-devastating-car-18314001 The council need to redesign it to reduce speeds.

@mitsky I once worked with an engineering contract foreman who had lost his sense of taste after falling backwards off a platform and banging his head. It was an annoyance which didn't seriously affect his quality of life. In fact it saved him money because he never had to purchase expensive meals or wines. Given a choice of that vs a spell in prison, I would opt for having Retsina with my fish fingers, chips and peas instead of the Pouilly Fume with turbot and parsley mash. Not sure about effects of libido loss v prison.

@OldTom In cases like this, the defence council in addition to trying to get a not guilty verdict, is also carrying out the important role of testing the robustness of the prosecution case. It ensures that high standards of proof are maintained for future prosecutions.

It really doesn’t seem like TfL or the Mayor have thought this one through. Previously cyclists could use Seymour Street and Wigmore Street to travel in parallel to the dangerously congested Oxford Street. With Oxford Street now closed, the traffic / gridlock has been moved to Seymour Street and Wigmore Street - removing the previously safe cycle route. Due to the number of one way streets and squares to the north of Oxford Street there is no longer a logical route for anyone cycling east to west or vice versa.

Whould be great to see the
Whould be great to see the TOB down here in Cornwall.
However, either you run stage 1 round a car park – or you go propper cornish lanes, and you end up with a day so selective and hard that you essentially decide the race on day 1.
They should do it the other way round – and end the race in Cornwall.
As for the TDF – yes it would be great to see; but after seeing Yorkshire, I don’t think we have the space. You can fit the race into Cornwall, or you can fit the crouds into Cornwall – but both together??? Would the TDF want a really hard day for stage 1?
