And yet… according to the ‘West Yorkshire decriminalising bad driving’ topic, which is confirming my own experience of being hit by vehicles in Lancashire, the police are sniggering behind the No-Bloody-Bikes-Here Sheds because they’re refusing to investigate until you’re properly smashed up, when there’s a good chance the camera will be smashed as well (Magic, Sarge!- insufficient evidence!). So, at first sight, all this camera stuff is a waste of time and money- as long as you let the police get away with doing nothing. In the words of Thin Lizzie (showing my age!) Fightttt!!!

I’m actually directly quoting a police officer here

But was this a quotation from a written document? If so, please publicise it!

    Yes, that’s the way

Yes, that’s the way Lancashire operates as well. They also try to dodge action against people crashing red lights on the A6: today I received this reply to my enquiry about a red light crashing by 2  learner bikers which occurred on 28.11.20 and was reported by me with video the following day. This, from Force Control Room at Lancashire Constabulary:

    Good Morning,

The log was passed to the relevant department who will have taken any appropriate action in relation to the incident.

That was all, but it’s not going to be the end of it, as there is now a long list of LC’s failure to take any action whatsoever over red light offences. The important aspect is that, as far as Lancashire Constabulary is concerned, the appropriate action to take over well-documented traffic offences is none at all. Lancashire is a paradise for offenders.

PS Toyota Hiace PX68 NHC was a lot further back when the lights turned red.

Damn! I must have missed that

Damn! I must have missed that Aldi- I would have bought it! The other article contains a lot of useful information. GoPro Hero 7 Black good as a camera, but the PC software is dire and getting worse as they have abandoned it. It will now not recognise the camera so getting the videos off is even more of a pain. You need that GPS timing and location data.

    It is allowed- not formally,

It is allowed- not formally, but in practice. We have heard frequently on these pages of minimal suspended sentences and comedy community service orders for killing cyclists, because it isn’t considered to be a real offence. The indoctrination of future drivers into the brotherhood where no offence against a cyclist is a real offence starts young, and they don’t forget the lesson even when they join the police. Regular readers will not be surprised to learn that my comprehensive report into this offence by the school bus resulted in no response whatsever from Lancashire Constabulary. What did the school bus driver gain from his MGIF offence? 2 minutes later I passed him as he waited to turn right into Garstang High School.

    I shunned the ‘consultation’

I shunned the ‘consultation’ because the police have absolutely no intention of enforcing any regulations in connection with offences against cyclists.

Why on earth would you come

Why on earth would you come at someone with a knife for being delayed for a few seconds?

The nutters are always with us, I fear. The only difference between this American one (doubtless a Trump supporter, NRA, stop the steal etc. etc.) and the fat slob in the vest in London or somewhere who was filmed on here assaulting a cyclist a few weeks ago (doubtless a Brexit supporting football watcher) is that theirs have assault weapons- this ex-driver’s arsenal must have been in for upgrading.

    coppaslip will prevent them seizing

This is not an argument, but I haven’t found copper grease to be any better than standard grease. This topic has reminded me to loosen the the hex heads on the TRP Spyres, but they were easy- I only changed the pads 3 months ago. This bike is out in all conditions.

Thanks. I’m happy to agree with that review. I was lucky with my Vitus gravel bike- I bought it and it had Spyres. I had no experience with disc brakes, so I did not appreciate in advance the advantages of dual piston.

    Mechanical disks are

Mechanical disks are greeeaaat!! Best brakes I’ve ever had. I suspect they have to be dual piston, which my excellent TRP Spyre are. I have changed pads once, after about a year, and there has been a very occasional trim-not because of rubbing, but pad wear and a desire to keep pads symmetrical.I don’t think they have ever rubbed. As for this ‘they squeal all the time’ stuff: I’ve had the odd squeal when it’s a bit wet, but it soon goes. I was out for nearly 4 hours in the pouring Lancashire rain today with no squeal at all- and predictable good braking. I won’t be getting any non-disc bike again.

Hero 7 usually works if you
Hero 7 usually works if you have a reasonably bright front light aimed to catch the rear plate as they pass you too close. The problem is the failing ancient PC software, which won’t allow access to the GPS data- generally it acquires it OK.

Fortunately, the solution is available: GPS. Almost always works on GoPro, and if it doesn’t acquire then it’s absent. It doesn’t get it wrong. The problem is that the PC software is dire, so I’m not recommending it.

If they won’t tell you what
If they won’t tell you what they’ve done, it means they have either done nothing at all, or the least-effort one of the options they offer. Simple.
