What I was hoping someone would tell me is stuff about vibration tolerance, ability to resolve number plates etc.

     the police have refused to

the police have refused to prosecute on the basis that…

[insert any excuse here]. It doesn’t matter to them how stupid the excuse is- I recall one of the first I saw on here from Essex: no action because the cyclist didn’t wobble or brake. You wonder how they still manage to find people thick enough to pass the entry requirements for the police- none of whom appear to have the cerebral capacity to imagine some psycho-nutter Audi or BMW driver passing at 60 mph only 20 cms away. The first you know is when they’re heading into the distance

    Whilst you won’t get points

Whilst you won’t get points on your licence for failing to pass a cyclist while observing a minimum distance, you may be served with points (or worse) for dangerous driving if you are found to be at fault for knocking a cyclist off their bike

Looks like Lancashire Constabulary is still obtaining its interpretation from the Cyclist-Hostile Red Driver Training

All this is ‘how many angels
All this is ‘how many angels can fit on the point of a pin’ stuff, when the Bad Cops are sticking firmly to their imaginary interpretation of the Highway Code, which is that No Pass Is Too Close

I’m from Co. Durham originally, and a member of Yorkshire Mountaineering Club! Actually, I’m quite happy with Lancashire apart from the Constabulary being the greatest single factor in promoting a toxic environment for cyclists on Lancashire’s roads. You certainly wouldn’t find any members of LC in similar circumstances, because there aren’t any cyclists or, if there are, they’re keeping well hidden. Inspector K is wrong about the claim on Strava for the shortest close pass operation ever, because Lancashire must hold that record: 0 metres, because they’re never held one.

SPDs are the only way to

SPDs are the only way to travel! If a shoe takes SPDs and is relatively flexible, it will do. One useful dodge I learned many years ago is to get double sided pedals and on the other side fit the bits of plastic which fit into an SPD clip and convert that side of the pedal to a flat- these used to come on new bikes to allow people to try them out, and I got a large supply from a bike shop as they were otherwise being thrown away. Maybe these aren’t supplied with new bikes any more?

    Although of course that data
Although of course that data only shows the ones that were caught!
No, Lancashire Constabulary routinely ignores indisputable video evidence of red light offences by drivers, and they’re presumably not the only bad cops who do this. So the statistics are worthless, and just show the ones the police didn’t just ignore away

The same applies to the xtr

The same applies to the xtr levers/ Avid Ultimate v-brakes on my touring bike.As for the claims about rim wear, I’ve never worn rims out yet

Try this with rim brakes, and you soon will- if the wheels survive the crashes

I am amazed that so many

I am amazed that so many think they are such a huge improvement when they make scraping noises due to trapped grit and squeal horribly in the wet and maintenance is so much more difficult and more frequently required

Presumably because the people who assert disk brakes are a great improvement are as thick as two short planks and are mindless dupes who have fallen for the evil propaganda of Big Bike. An alternative view is that they are indeed a great improvement, make considerably less scraping noise than occurs with the grit embedded in brake blocks which is simultaneously wearing away the rim, squeal less than brake blocks and require easier and less frequent maintenance- for mechanical disks at least. I have worn through lots of rims over the years- I suppose this rather depends on how many miles you do.

Rim brakes will make a come-back in years to come when manufacturers have run out of people to sell expensive new disc brake bikes to

This degree of self-deception is really astonishing. No they won’t, although they might continue for some time to cater for the same sort of people who insist that analogue audio is ‘better’ than digital

they are merely a marginal gain at best

    We’ll just have to disagree.

When I have rang 101 in the past and reported it they have been helpful

I don’t know anything about your police, but my (jaundiced) guess is that was them pretending to be helpful to fob you off. The currency in these transactions is actual action against offenders, not promises or hints of action some time in the future. If they won’t tell you, it means they haven’t done anything

Any ideas what the best way

Any ideas what the best way would be get an update? I’m sick of getting nothing back from them, thinking they are not even bothering to watch the footage

Welcome to world of the Bad Cops. All you can do is collect evidence, and then put it on YouTube. The Bad Cops will ignore it. It’s a long hard struggle, but it could be worse: you could live in Lancashire, the Land of Bent Police. Today I immediately recognised Transit lorry HY66 ZZB when it passed me, on this occasion not an offence. Look it up…no VED since 4.6.19. This below was on 9.3.22, 3 days after the driver close-passed me at 45 in a 30 limit when I got around to submitting the report. The police took no action about anything, claiming they couldn’t read the plate although I saw it and reported it, and that DVLA is unreliable ‘because it’s not updated as often as the PNC’ (people who don’t live here can have no conception of the complete-crapness of Lancashire Constabulary!- the image just needs lightening. They insist on only receiving the unadulterated original footage as it comes out of the camera). It’s a haven here for people with no MOT, no VED, neither. There is no means of complaining when the police perform the judging of themselves, and even I, with all my experience, am sickened by the corruption of the police here
