I am struggling with 4 after todays transfers.I have a couple more, but you always regret the ones you make earlier in a race that didn’t work out. With the TT, SF, Flat, SF, SF, Flat stages in the last week it has required maybe a couple more transfers than some final weeks of a Grand Tour.
The other we we are seeing is all those breakaway wins, it kind of encourages you to chase those, but that is a much tougher predicton than who might do the business as a GC contender.

Big break, sprinter teams with representatives in it. Who is going to chase?

https://road.cc/content/buyers-guide/215055-13-best-cheap-gps-cycling-computersI use a Garmin 500 (log since discontinued) to record rides and upload to Strava. Any of the GPS systems will work with Strava. The 500 is generally considered reliable, but the forums have lots of comments that the newer models have more bugs

Anyone want to share?
The bookies are rarely wrong, so worth checking oddschecker and the like. Cycling Quotes is a Danish site that does pretty in-depth previews for the day’s big races.
*BUT* – you’re taking advice from the Forum Scorum perennial lanterne rouge…
I think the English language Cyclingquotes gave up, although you can still something from the same people if your Danish is good enough.

No idea what the best thing
No idea what the best thing to do today is. My team feels a bit all over the place for a stage like this after being sprint heavy yesterday.
It is days like this where big gains / losses can be made, but they are a bit stressful. Simple GC and sprinter days are easier to predict and the differences in teams are therefore much smaller.

https://road.cc/content/forum/215304-winter-boots-northwave-fahrenheit-arctic-2-gtx
I have the Northwave Fahrenheit 2 GTX , but ordinary version not the Arctic version.
I have ridden in them for around 6 Scottish winters and they are still in good condition, wore them this morning for the commute.
I have found them warm enough for anything I would cycle in, including rides around freezing. Even with decent gloves I usually find my fingers are the problem before my toes. They are way better and simpler than overshoes.
I bought a pair with sufficient room for a decent thick pair of socks, too tight and you restrict the blood flow and end up colder, so consider sizing.
They are excellent for road spray etc, but they have the same problems all boots and shoes have – water runs down your legs into the boots and you will get wet feet if it is a wet day.
These versions are available at the moment in a couple of places at £100 if you can find your size. I would say good value at that.

Just bought a Fairlight Strael. Ticks the spec (including thru axles), but it is not cheap. Enjoying it though.

It has limited use as a navigation aid, but as a training aid (HR, Power, Altitiude etc) it is really excellent. The altimeter (barometer run) is ridiculously accurate. I have no idea how they do it.I’ve yet to find anyone who has had issues with their 500, and I think it’s where they coming from with the 130 – clear screen, physical buttons, compact size. Just seems to work…
Not getting rid of my 500 anytime soon. Apart from having to plug it in to upload rides there are very few downsides.

Yes, you will need the right
Yes, you will need the right tools though. You will need a chain whip and a lockring tool. Lots of videos out there to show you how.
If the wheels are relatively new (roughly last five years) they will be suitable for 11 speed. I have the same wheels 11 speed.

Pitbull Steelers wrote:BehindTheBikesheds wrote:Pitbull Steelers wrote:This is my first post so please be gentle with me.I recently retired after 30 years in the Police and during that time i’ve dealt with fatals, serious and generally basic rtc’s. I helped scrape bits of scalp off the road after cyclists have skidded along after coming off a bike, some through vehicles hitting them and some from generally not being careful and / or observant and obviously they haven’t been wearing a helmet.
But in the same breath i’ve dealt with cyclists with rotational injuries and strap burns who were wearing a helmet.
After seeing this i always wear a helmet as i’d rather have a rotational strain than lose part of my scalp or worse.
Ultimately though it’s the individuals choice and should stay that way.
Given the stats I posted upthread you will of course have seen many thousands more scalps being removed, many more fractured skulls, many more serious head injuries and deaths by head injuries outside of cycling. That from children in a playground to people on ladders, to pedestrians on the street, people on a night out and the big one people in motorvehicles.
Why do you not wear a helmet for any of these clearly dangerous activities (walking/driving/other), ones we know are the direct cause of approximately 161,000 hospital admissions for serious head injuries (which is not all serious head injuries as obviously many tens of thousands do not require an admission into hospital), or is it that the group with a relatively very low number of serious head injuries (circa 1000) would be the only group to make you feel the need to wear one, if so why?
Did you victim blame people on bikes for no his-vis and no helmet when struck by criminal motorists which is the usual police stance and has been for decades?
Do you have to be sarcastic when all i did was offer my own view ?
Clearly you have a dislike for my previous profession, which is entirely your choice so i’ll leave it at that.
He is like that with everybody, don’t take it personal. I don’t post about helmets as the level of debate is just as bad as Brexit, IndyRef or anywhere that two sides shout at each other, don’t listen and can’t do nuance and grey.

That is the highest number of bicyclist deaths since 1991.More than half of those killed in 2016 weren’t wearing helmets. Nice conflation of figures there.
1) Over half – so are we talking 50.00001% ? 51% ? 99% ? L
2) reduces odds of head injury by 50% Oh , estimated. Guessed, more like.
3) And how many of those 835 deaths with/without helmets were from head trauma and how many were crush/internal organ injuries?
iihs.org wrote:The Virginia Tech Helmet Lab currently rates football and hockey helmets, as well as soccer headgearWho on earth wears (protective) headgear to play soccer* ?!?!?!
Apparently, the yanks do. Jeez. Quick google for Soccer headgear reveals its rebadged rugby scrum caps or a padded headband

Some fine (5 star) reviews for this on their website:
“I don’t know if they actually work, but I look so hardcore in them that it makes people think that I’m better than I really am.”
“My daughter has used your protective headgear since her 2nd concussion and I have to say I wish more goalies and field players would wear it. When she got her 3rd concussion she hit her head against the goal post and I swear that her headgear took most of the blow. Unfortunately she just received her 4th concussion and can no longer play contact sports, but it wasn’t for a lack of headgear, she got kicked in the head.”
I think the author of the first review can find the answer to whether they work in the second testimonial.
(*or football as the rest of the world calls it)
I just can’t get over ‘field players’.

These might help. Wouldn’t go as low as a Claris groupset myself. Triban’s get a good name usually.
There will be people on here that would say go second hand and there can be good deals.
If you can access it a Cycle to work scheme can help that budget too.

This isn’t going to happen.
This isn’t going to happen. A couple of Peers talking rubbish in a Lord’s debate is along way away from legislation coming.
It does highlight the complete lack of understanding they have about how bike transport could be used / encouraged.
PS I commuted this morning. Drop bars and a bell. Shared use areas, used it. Nobody listened. Slowed right up and slipped past those walking dogs on extendable leads four a breast. My bell didn’t really help.
