    I’ve got a K Edge bar mount

I’ve got a K Edge bar mount for my GoPro and got some good footage of myself and friends tackling some classic climbs (Alpe d’Huez etc).  I can just turn it off/on whenever I want to get some video.

A job change meant a more ‘busy road’ commute and I invested in a Fly6 (seat post mount) and a Drift Stealth 2 (helmet mount).  I get the odd bit of bad driving footage, but it’s primarily to provide evidence if I get taken out.  Not sure any motorist clocks that I’m filming.  The only thing about cameras is you could get paranoid that the day you don’t have them is the day you get knocked off. Outside of commuting I’d only use them if I was out on my own and probably only the Fly6 as it doubles as a good daytime ‘be seen’ light.

For the hostile commutes I run a Fly6 on the back; 2 years on and going strong.  Good video, even in the dark.  I’ve got a Drift Stealth 2 helmet mounted; again good video but not great in the dark.  I use the (supplied) goggle mount ‘bodged’ to fit on the vents using a velcro strap I had in my ‘might come in useful’ box.  Not as crazy looking as a helmet mounted GoPro.  The first Drift I got had a duff battery; replacement seems OK after a years use.

I just use the cameras for commutes and some road rides where I’m on my own so I don’t become totally paranoid.  Probably get knocked off when I’m not using them!

Perhaps not the most ‘elegant’ solution, but the Topeak cover works well.  You can buy extra bar mounts so you can move it between bikes.

Get some handbuilt ones; mine are Mavic CX Pro rims with Dura-ace hubs.  Didn’t have much choice when my bike man said, “I don’t do factory wheels”.

    The Mobi portable washer is

The Mobi portable washer is not in the same league as patio or garage forecourt pressure washers, hence its perfect for bike washing; about the same pressure as your garden hose with a nozzle.  If you’re MTBing you can give the bike a quick wash before loading onto the car; shift the dirt whilst its damp, which is easier than the next day when its dried on.

My summer commute takes just under an hour on the road bike (13 miles).  Went on my aged (heavy) hybrid one day, which covers the winter months (different safer route), and it was 5 min slower.  Kind of feel that I’m working harder on the hybrid, but that may be physchological.  Killed off the thought of replacing the hybrid with a CX bike.

I commute, once or twice a week, out into the countryside.  Around this time of year I switch to the winter bike and keep away from the busier B road I use in the summer.  Takes longer but I feel more comfortable in the dark on the lanes, although I keep away from any lanes used as ‘rat runs’.  I’ve got a 800 Lumen light which means cars see me coming before they actually see me (loom of the light).  It has a dim function as well.  Bit of ‘reflectives’ as well so you stand out.  Makes me appreciate the summer more!

Just switched to my winter ‘green lane’ commuting route.  Normally loads of lazy pheasants running in front of the bike with me shouting, “Take-off!”

I have a Mezzo D9, mainly because when I bought it the waiting time for a Brompton was 3 months.  More ‘bike for your buck’ and I’ve ‘pimped’ the gears by putting a bigger cassette on it.  Fold is as quick as a Brompton, although marginally heavier and larger (once folded).  It’s a good bike, although I do kind of still want a Brompton!

Just had to go through the wheel upgrade process as one of the rims (DT Swiss I think) was starting to crack around a spoke hole.  Spoke to my bike mechanic who said he didn’t do ‘factory wheels’ and would only do handbuilt.  Decided it was a worthwhile upgrade and settled on Dura Ace hubs with Mavic CX Pro Rims.  Had the spokes tuned to weight and riding style.  Anyway they feel great and look good on a copper framed Genesis.  Quite like the fact that the hubs can now be serviced and spares (hubs & rims) are are available if I break anything.  Downside?….not cheap!
