    Basically saying the same as

Basically saying the same as Kil0ran, but changing the emphasis a little: looking at the spec of the bike on the Trek website, it looks likely your bike will have been supplied with tubeless ready rims, but fitted with clincher (not tubeless) tyres (Bontrager R1 Hard Case Lite) and inner tubes. So, in terms of puncture related accessories, unless you specifically want to change to tubeless, you’ll just need to carry the same sort of puncture repair kit you would have 10 years ago (levers, spare tube, pump etc).

Thanks. I did search road.cc for “replace helmet”, but that one didn’t come up… My commuting lid is in outwardly good shape, but is 2010 vintage, so figure it might be time for a change.

A little off topic but I had a very similar left hook collision, though in my case the driver stopped. Although I hit the deck, there was no noticeable damage to me or the bike. Given there was no damage, the Met wouldn’t take any further action. Which is bizzarre when they’ve issued NIPs for every close pass I’ve reported to them.

Decided to dip a toe back in

Decided to dip a toe back in the ebay water (I hadn’t sold on it since the mid-noughties) by selling some other less risky stuff first before listing a bike. I’ve since done one Paypal + Collection transaction and, for what it’s worth, the collection code system worked well, though it took a while to work out you can only use it through the app, and where exactly in the app you enter it.

Along the way, I’ve made a very pleasing couple of hundred quid out of what, to me, was clutter (turns out Minidiscs have a cult following – I’m now slightly regretting selling that!) and I may now be an ebay addict.

This may however all be academic when it comes to the bike, as my dad has now asked to borrow it as an indoor trainer…

Similar to others – I run a Cycliq Fly6CE at the back, and a Go Pro Hero (just Hero, no number – their basic entry level one from 2018) on the front. In terms of picture, there’s no discernible difference to me. But for me the Cycliq wins on usability for my usage, which is (or was!) primarily commuting. The fact that it overwrites in a loop is really useful (whereas on the GoPro I have to delete footage manually when full), and the battery life is better (the Cycliq tended to last for 5 legs of my commute, versus 2 -3 legs for the Go Pro. NB: I used a separate light, so wasn’t using the light function on the Cycliq). Also much easier to remove from its mount. But the software updating on the Cycliq has been a bit flaky. The date / time stamp went wildly wrong, and for a while I found it difficult to get it to connect to my PC to update the settings / firmware to fix that. And I’ve just noticed that this week it appears to have decided to stop recording sound – haven’t tried fixing that yet.

    Strictly speaking I think you

Strictly speaking I think you’ve quoted the rules for broadcast ads. I think the rules for non-broadcast (including internet based) ads are slightly different, though the principles are similar. There is a rule that manufacturers avail themselves of; I can’t tell if it applies to this ad:

“Vehicles’ capabilities may be demonstrated on a track or circuit if it is obviously not in use as a public highway.”

That’s why manufacturers often use a track or even a fantasy world (e.g. I recall an Inception-inspired ad where the roads rearranged themselves) in ads to avoid any suggestion of condoning dangerous on road driving.

Fundamentally they are trying to sell a car whose attraction is performance, so they will have to push the rules to do so. I’m not saying it’s right.

    Thanks for all the helpful

Thanks for all the helpful replies. It does look like ebay now (as of late 2020) has a way of confirming collection, to avoid “item not delivered” and chargeback issues, so that may make PayPal less risky. I’m just conscious that buyers might rightly be a little wary of the safety of cash on collection (I would be), and I think ebay’s terms mean you have to offer PayPal anyway (though I’m sure that’s honoured in the breach). Of course, using a courier would avoid these issues, but then you get potential issues around damage in transit instead. Clearly I’m just a born worrier. I might get back into the swing of ebay with some smaller, less risky items first!

Agreed. I run a GoPro on the front and Fly6 on the back, and find the Cycliq much better to live with – easier to mount / dismount, no need to clear the card every day or two because the recording loops (and therefore less mounting / dismounting to be done anyway), longer battery life even though it’s also being used as a rudimentary light. No, I won’t always get a clear plate from the Fly6 in the dark, but I think that’s mainly because it’s rear-facing. I should mount the GoPro rearward as a comparison.

    There may be a technical

There may be a technical distinction between tax and excise duty (or between tax, excise and duty even), but it’s common to refer to it as tax. At least the form is clear that it’s vehicle tax, not road tax – isn’t that the main beef?

    I have very positive

I have very positive experiences with Schwalbe Marathon Plus, but not in your circumstances. I’ve used them in all weathers except actual snow, but for a shorter, flatter commute, and in London, where roads are busier and temperatures higher, so ice is less often an issue, and isolation even less so. In my experience (in a 35c size) they have been absolutely bombproof. I got over 5 years (commuting c.50km/week) out of my first set, and only one puncture in that time (and that was a nail which went in one side of the tyre and out the other!) I never had a problem with grip, but they are heavy and no doubt very ‘dead’ feeling – didn’t bother me as I’ve never known anything different on that bike (a steel Genesis Day One). I think they also come in a studded version.
